Oscar award-winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has lost her grandmother. The family of Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o is in mourning following the death his mother who was 98 years old.

Mama Dorcas died at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi on Tuesday where she was receiving treatment.

“We keep the Governor and the entire family in our prayers at this very dark time in their lives. May the Lord rest her soul in eternal peace,” read part of a statement by the governor’s press unit.

The death will be hard for the actress who was deeply connected to her. In 2015 she named her as one of the people she misses when abroad and promised always to visit her whenever she’s in the country.
