MP Betty Nambooze Cleared to fly abroad for further treatment

Mukono MP, Betty Nambooze who has been under police guard at Kiruddu hospital in Kampala since she fell ill while in detention in Nagalama police station, had requested to be allowed to seek further medical attention as her health deteriorates.

According to Mulago Hospital, ED, Dr, Byaruhanga Baterana, the legislator needs  to receive treatment abroad.

” We have been having Nambooze for about a week. It’s true she is really sick. She needs to travel abroad for further checkup. We have made the report to the honourable minister (health minister). The papers for Nambooze to move are now with Parliament and she knows the process very well. she is moving abroad as soon as heaven can allow. Everything is worked on.

The legislator’s health woes started after she  injured her spine is the famous Age Limit Bill fracas in Parliament last year.

One of the things that a mother does not want her child to see, is herself suffering and in pain. They are role models, and always want their babies to know that they can overcome any circumstance. Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, who is currently bed ridden, witnessed her son break into tears on seeing her.

It was a painful sight, and the little boy, Joshua Mwesigwa, could not hold back his emotions. His mother was arrested for an offensive post published on Social Media, about the late Ibrahim Abiriga.

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION REQUESTS FOR BETTY’S RELEASE

The Uganda Human Rights Commission has requested the police to release the member of parliament so that she can go and get treatment. Mulago hospital has however constantly insisted that it has the capacity to treat Nambooze.

“…the commission therefore requests for your urgent intervention to ensure that MP Nambooze’s rights are respected and that she is released so that she can … travel to to receive treatment,” a part of the letter written by the chairperson Uganda Human Rights Commission Read.

The Member of Parliament is still being held at Kiruddu hospital, and her condition is worsening.

Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, who was previously arrested has finally spoken. He arrest was due to an apparently offensive post she published on her Social Media page after the death of Ibahim Abiriga. Abiriga, the Arua Municipality MP, was murdered near his home in Mityana. Following  a  post by the Daily Monitor, we learn that she is not sorry at all. The newspaper reported that Nambooze, aired out he views on the incident.

“I have no regrets whatsoever for my social media post on the late  Abiriga because there is nothing wrong I did. If what I wrote hurt his family, then I am sorry. But if it hurt Museveni, then I am very happy. Actually, I met Abiriga’s family at Parliament and we had a chat but  Museveni now fears the social media revolution,’ she said.

The Member of Parliament has since her arrest been bedridden, because the injuries she had once sustained had been awakened. Her situation has been getting worse with time. We will keep you updated on the story.

Uganda Human Rights Commission Requests For Betty Nambooze To be Released

Following her arrest, the condition of Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze has been constantly on a decline. These followed injuries she attained in the past, during a scuffle in the Parliament. She was later taken to India for medical treatment. The Uganda human Rights Commission has requested for the MP to be released. This is so that she can be taken to India for medical support.

The Chairman, UHRC, Mr. Kaggwa, mentioned that holding Betty Nambooze for more than 48 hours without producing her to the courts of law is a violation of her rights. This was in a letter dated June 21st 2018, copied to the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.

“She has been derived of her privacy, as a patient due to the constant interference by police officers with her treatment regime. Most times these police officers are male and they force themselves into her room when she is receiving treatment in total disregard of her gender” He explained.

Betty Nambooze’s Condition Worsens

Mukono municipality MP, Betty Nambooze  has been admitted into ICU. Our sources report that her veins have failed and she has been transferred to Intensive care. Mulago hospital however mentions that they will be able to treat the politician, as she is being handled by the best doctors in town.

Nambooze was arrested following the death of Arua Municipality MP, Ibrahim Abiriga. She allegedly posted offensive information on Social Media about the late. This led to her re-arrest, and she was taken to Naggalama Police Station. From there, her health became worrying and the Mukono municipality MP, was transferred to Kiruddu Hospital for treatment. Betty was taken through a scan, and the doctors discovered that her former injuries had worsened.

During a scuffle in parliament in September last year, the MP was caught in between, and injured her spinal cord. She was taken to India for surgeries, and Betty returned in better health. However, with this first arrest, we need to pray for her to get better.

Erias Lukwago, has prompted the court to ensure that police  releases Nambooze, as she has been detained past the legally mandated 48 hours. Let us pray for her.

Following the death and assassination of Arua Municipality Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Abiriga, numerous investigations have taken place. Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Honorable Betty Nambooze, was the first to be taken in as a suspect. She has however been re;eased on police bond.

WHY BETTY WAS ARRESTED

Under the offence of offensive communication, the MP, together with four other people were taken in. Thiswas because of social media posts before and after the death of Arua municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga and his brother Saidi Butele Kongo. The other files that were opened, was against  Raymond Soufa aka Peng Peng, Nasser Mugerwa and Jane Kuli.  Mugerwa was because of an audio that was circulated, in which he  takes responsibility for killing Abirirga. Jane Kuli was brought in because of a face book post that apparently predicted the death.

MP Betty Nambooze Back From India After Successful Surgery.

Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament,  Betty Nambooze has returned to Uganda after a successful surgery in India. The politician had sustained an injury, when anonymous government men entered Parliament in an attempt to take some MPs out during a disagreement. The MPs were to be suspended because they apparently caused confusion during discussions on the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2017 ,to remove Article 102 (B) of the constitution to lift Presidential age limit.

During the  scuffle that erupted, The #Togikwatako advocate’s spinal cord was  broken. Ten other Members of Parliament also sustained injuries. Betty was admitted, and our sources say she spent thirty days at Bugolobi Health Center. From there she received visits from Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga and the opposition president, Dr. Kizza Besigye.

BETTY NAMBOOZE’S MEDICAL REPORT

The doctors then advised her to seek better treatment in India. Having gotten clearance from the Government, Betty Nambooze was then flown out for an operation.

The Member of Parliament underwent spinal chord surgery at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore in India. Medics explain this as a posterior spinal decompression and fusion L 4-L 5. She also had a  lumber canal stenosis L4-L5 with stability and right lower limb radiculopathy. This one in particular needed her to have metals put in her spine. Our sources say that she spent a total of 8 hours in surgery.

Betty Nambooze also had some time in India to undergo radiotherapy, to enable her walk properly, and to straighten her back. Her operation was successful and she is now back in Uganda to her happy family.  Welcome home Hon Betty Nambooze.
