Quiin Abenakyo graduation saga

As the festivities of graduations at makerere university were in high gear, one thing seemed amiss around newly famous miss world Africa as with new attention comes new scrutiny.

As the names of graduands for the bachelors degree of business computing were read, Abenakyo was read first but was no where to be found in the printed copy which everyone had. Tongues started to wag on the discrepancy that was going on that could somehow be tied to her fame that caused her to skip the queue.

University administrator came out to clear the air “Hey. The story circulating about Abenakyo is false. She completed her course Bachelor of Business Computing. Her name was read first. Not in the book because it was printed before she cleared,” he said.

Makerere Student Narrowly Raped By Lecturer

Makerere University is one of the places known for sexual harassment and sex-for-marks situations. Recently, another victim of this scandal, has gone public with a photo on Social Media. At first, many thought that she was just in a moment of pride for her when she posted a photo of her being licked by a lecturer in what looked like an office. Information later on shows that the student, identified as Njoro Racheal was nearly raped by a lecturer.

Rachel Njoro

She has been identified as a Kenyan Student, who joined Makerere and graduated this year, in January. The photo seems to have been taken from an office at the College of Computing and Information Sciences.

THE STORY ABOUT THE RAPE SITUATION

Our sources report that Rachel narrated how the lecturer wanted to help her with coursework. He thus asked her to see him. She then explains that using some basic skills she learnt from her girl guide lessons at school, she managed to escape. Rachel remained calm and submissive until she had a great opportunity to kick the lecturer where it hurts the most.

What do you think about this situation. Is Makerere, one of the best universities in East Africa, having it’s name damaged due to the sex for marks error?

Makerere University To Introduce e-Learning

They say that one can never stop learning, and the internet is making this possible. Education is going to be done from where ever we are, and at whatever time is convenient, thanks to e-learning. Reports from our sources have confirmed that Uganda’s top University, Makerere, will be introducing this type of forum in the country.

“The new approach will help improve research since many students will access all kinds of information using different gadgets. With e-learning, students can also study away from campus, which will increase enrollment without congesting the campus,”  said the University director for quality assurance, Dr, Vincent Ssembatya.

HOW E-LEARNING WORKS

Using e-learning, application, enrollment and even registration will be done on the internet. Students will not have to move to the University every now and then. There is also a library, through which various students can access reading materials and tutorials. The students will be able to access all of this using gadgets such as phones, tablets and computers. The policy for this introduction is in line with those of the ministry of ICT and NITA(National Information Technology)

The director of the ICT ministry mentioned that Makerere University will not go anywhere with the absence of e-learning. The techniques must thus be embraced.

E-learning will help to the University to enroll more students, but at the same time maintain a reasonable number on campus. It will also allow for improved engagement of international students, and research. Do you think e-learning is  a great initiative for Makerere to take up?

WINNIE MANDELA TO RECEIVE HONORS AT THE 68TH GRADUATION

From our various sources, we have come to learn that  Winnie Madikizela Mandela, wife to  Nelson Mandela, the Freedom fighter, will be given an Honorary Doctorate of Laws in recognition for her  exclusive and continuous contribution to the liberation struggle of South Africa, and Africa as a whole.

“I congratulate all the graduands and their parents/sponsors. You are the top brains of our country and a lot is expected of you. Put God first and always hold yourself in esteem and you shall surely succeed. Congratulations!” A tweet from Nwangwa read.

There are many claims that the Ugandan economy in the form of availability of job opportunity is not yet ready to receive more graduates. However, other people disagree, and argue that the jobs are there, but the quality of graduates produced are not able to get them on their own. Putting all of this aside, Congratulations to all the graduates from the different areas of expertise.
