Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja unveiled a plan to transform Uhuru Park into a vibrant social hub, including the construction of a nightclub.

During the park’s handover ceremony from the Ministry of Defence, Sakaja explained the nightclub would offer an alternative for those currently operating clubs in residential areas. He emphasized there would be no noise restrictions, allowing for late-night revelry.

The plan extends beyond nightlife. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) will see the construction of restaurants, including Swahili and African options. An additional attraction will be a dancing fountain, with a price tag of Ksh 156 million.

Governor Sakaja emphasized transparency, stating tenders will be issued for the development of these amenities within the renovated park.

The park itself will transition from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to county control. Sakaja urged residents to help preserve Uhuru Park and other green spaces in Nairobi.

“Let’s commit to protecting and improving this park and others across the city,” he said.

He further requested the public to follow park regulations and for any encroachers to vacate the premises before facing county action.

“For those who have built on park land, please remove yourselves voluntarily. We will restore the park to its rightful state,” he concluded.
