Githeri Man denies he was drunk as a fish, claims it was a joke: “I am a comedian. I wanted to entertain people”

Githeri man, real name Martin Kamotho, has come out to deny that a picture doing rounds on social media showing him being ferried in a trolly in town is actually what guys think it was.

Speaking in an interview on K24, Kamotho who has been on social media and blogs several times for allegedly being too drunk, said that he was just playing around when he was carried on the trolly. He wasn’t drunk.

“I did not do anything wrong. If anything, it was me who asked to be put on a trolley. I am a comedian, and I wanted to entertain my people by pretending that I am a wealthy man being ‘chauffeured around’.” he said.

He, however, confessed that there was a time he was drinking a lot after some of the business owners and companies, who had pledged to help him financially failed to fulfill their promises.

Githeri Man Martin Kamotho shot to fame after he was photographed eating his favorite meal while waiting in a queue to cast his vote in the August 8th 2017 general election.

He was even awarded a State Commendation, but Kenyans soon discovered he was an alcoholic and he was forced to check in at a rehabilitation center.

Man githeri has finally completed a 9-month rehabilitation programme at Mama Care Rehabilitation Centre in Wangunyu Primary School, Kiambu County.

Certificate from president

Kamotho was among 77 recovering alcoholics who received certificates from president Uhuru Kenyatta after successfully the rehab programme.

The president appealed to Kamotho and other recovering alcoholics to be ambassadors in the war on illicit alcohol. The rehab facility is an initiative by Kiambu Women Rep Gathoni Wa Muchomba.

Githeri man is not a new name to most Kenyans. He first made headlines after he was photographed carrying his (maize and beans) meal in a colorless polytene paper during the August 8th elections.

This earned him some huge recognition as many could not stop talking about him. With all that fame, the fella landed a few lucrative deals that saw his life change.

Githeri man gets fancy gifts

He was not only gifted with a s8 by Safaricom but he also got a piece of land in Karen courtesy of Ngong crescent real estate firm. Githeri man aka Martin Kamotho was also promised well designed suits by the lady who personally designs president Uhuru’s shirts.

This past weekend he however left many talking shortly after his photos hanging out at a local bar emerged.

Githeri man’s popularity has now gone international, a French TV station just spent 3 minutes talking about the man who wowed Kenyans on August 8^th election day.

Martin Kamotho aka Githeri man is now a big shot, he has hired a team of three people to help him rake in money from his sudden popularity.

France 24, a 24-hour international news and current affairs television network based in Paris, took three minutes to talk about Githeri man.

The station’s two hosts highlighted how Githeri man had become an instant celebrity in Kenya and how the KOT used hilarious memes to ‘fix’ Githeri man in different photos.

Githeri man steals the show at Mike Sonko’s inauguration (Photos)

Mike Sonko and his deputy Polycarp Igathe took oath of office on Monday August 21^st at Uhuru Park in a ceremony that was attended by president Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto.

Outgoing Governor Evans Kidero, who was also in attendance, congratulated Sonko for his election victory and wished him great success in governing the city.

With president uhuru and his deputy at Uhuru Park, security was tight as usual. The VIP section was under the watchful eyes of the president’s security detail, no commoner was allowed near.

But guess who made it to the VIP section? Githeri man himself (Martin Kamotho) was on the VIP section dressed in the same clothes he was seen in his viral photo.

Githeri was tasked with welcoming important guests at the VIP section, he stood at the entrance to greet and usher in guests who attended Sonko’s inauguration.

Seems that the githeri man is now receiving negative public after a certain person shared a photo which he claims was recently taken after Martin Kamotho passed out at a ditch before he was robbed his S8 which he was gifted by Safaricom.

From the caption, David Garby wrote to say that’s Githeri man for you..drunk like stupid S8 phone stolen which he shared on his Facebook page.

The post went viral as Kenyans on social media tried to find out whether this was true. However, through his official Instagram page the Githeri man brushed off the baseless claim by writing to say;

“Tukubaliane. Hakuna vile naweza waangusha chini kama wakenya. Hiyo risto ya kulewa na kupoteza simu sio ukweli. Simu zote ziko hapa. Yule anaeneza uvumi sijui ako na niya gani. Nazidi kuwashukuru wakenya wote. Simu ndio hii. Na yuke anasema nililewa nikaporwa nimekusamehe”

Lately Jalang’o has been writing many letter dedicated to President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga and his latest was directed to Githeri man where he urged him to take charge of the opportunities that have been presented to him since his unique photo went viral.

Despite the long post receiving different reactions from fans, many agreed with what he wrote as they have all seen how forgetful Kenyans are.

In the letter shared on his Instagram page, Jalang’o wrote saying;

Dear Getheriman
First let me thank you for bringing the much needed humour when the tensions were at 102 degrees and rising , I would log in the IEBC portal to see how my preffered candidates were fairing on and I would be sad or happy but seeing your photos with Trump,Obama,Kanye and many more whom you were photoshopped with I smiled and laughed!

He went on to add,

Now back to my letter, Githeriman you are not special neither did you do anything special but you are what I call a “Kenyan Moment “! A Kenyan moment is that moment where Kenyans come together to celebrate nothing , be happy about nothing and anything! A few examples are ” Nikama drama ni Kama Vindeo” “Kifi kifi ” bwana yangu ameenda na maji ” and many more…maybe readers will remind me of others in their comments! All of them are gone and forgotten! So people forget Kenyan moments and life goes on! They will soon forget you and move on! I hear people saying that there are people taking advantage of you and exploiting you, don’t listen to them but make the best out of it now, take everything you are being offered , eat everything, collect everything, accept everything before they forget you! The same people saying this things have not offered you anything and will not! Soon and very soon as early as next week nobody will talking about you because the brand Getheriman cannot stand beyond 1 month! Githeri man gets Kes 230,000 worth of smart phones from Safaricom (Photos)

Martin Kamotho now popularly known as ‘Githeri man’ became internet sensation after a photo of him eating githeri while queuing at a polling station went viral online.

Kenyans changed the fortune of the 41 year old man when they shared hilarious memes on social media sparking interest from media and corporate bodies.

Githeri man has so far landed interviews on radio and TVs, in one of the interviews he revealed that he wasn’t aware his photo was trending on social media because he didn’t own a phone.

Telecommunications giant – Safaricom managed to track down Githeri man and they rewarded him with goodies worth Kes 230,000.

Safaricom gave Githeri man Samsung S8 which is valued at Kes 90,000, his wife was also given a similar phone while their son was gifted with a Tecno Canon worth Kes 50,000. In total Safaricom gave Githeri man’s family gadgets worth Kes 230,000.
