KPLC has advised customers in the affected areas to take precautionary measures and to conserve energy during the outage. The company has also apologized for any inconvenience caused.

This is not the first time that KPLC has announced power outages in recent months. In January 2023, three counties were listed as those that would be affected by power outages. The three counties included Nyeri, Nandi, and Nyamira.

KPLC has attributed the power outages to routine network maintenance. However, some customers have expressed concerns about the frequency of the outages. They have also asked KPLC to improve its communication with customers about the outages.

Kenya Power: Network breakdown affects prepaid token purchase

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced that a network breakdown from its service provider has affected the purchase of prepaid tokens.

In a statement on Thursday, KPLC said that customers are unable to purchase prepaid tokens through M-Pesa or the USSD code *977#. However, customers can still buy tokens from their banking halls, Airtel Money, and authorized banks.

KPLC said that it is working to resolve the issue and apologized for the inconvenience.

“We are working with our service provider to restore the affected services as soon as possible,” the company said.

The network breakdown is the latest in a series of problems that have affected KPLC’s services in recent months. In May, the company experienced a nationwide outage that left millions of customers without power.

KPLC has been criticized for its poor customer service and its inability to maintain its infrastructure. In a recent survey, only 13% of Kenyans said that they were satisfied with KPLC’s services.

The network breakdown is likely to add to the frustration of KPLC customers. The company has been urged to improve its customer service and to invest in its infrastructure to prevent future outages.

Nimrod Mbai arrested for assaulting KPLC engineer

Nimrod Mbai, the MP for Kitui East, was arrested on charges of assaulting a Kenya Power employee who was cutting off his illegal electricity connection. The incident took place in Kitengela town, and the MP will be arraigned in court in Kajiado.

A group of Kenya Power employees had earlier staged a demonstration in Kitengela to protest the MP’s assault on their colleague. They demanded that the authorities take action against the MP, but before they were informed that he had been arrested, the demonstration had already dispersed.

The MP’s arrest is a sign that the authorities are taking the incident seriously. It is also a reminder that everyone is subject to the law, regardless of their position or status.

Kenyans Lament Rising Cost of Electricity Tokens

Kenyans have been lamenting the rising cost of electricity tokens, which are now lasting for only a few days.

Sandra Dacha, a popular Kenyan actress, recently took to social media to express her frustration with the issue. She said that she used to be able to buy a 1000-bob token and get 80 units, but now she only gets 29 units. This means that the token only lasts for about 4 days.

Other Kenyans have also taken to social media to complain about the rising cost of electricity tokens. Some people have said that they are now buying tokens for Sh 50 just to light up the room where they sleep.

The increase in the cost of electricity tokens is due to a number of factors, including the rising cost of fuel and the government’s decision to increase the cost of electricity.

The energy regulation sector increased the price of electricity by up to 63% at the beginning of June 2023. Kenya Power said it intended to raise more money to upgrade its aging distribution systems and to net Sh 177 billion in revenue in the 2022/2023 financial year.

The increase in the cost of electricity tokens is a major concern for many Kenyans. It is making it difficult for people to afford basic necessities, such as lighting and cooking.

There are a number of things that can be done to address the issue of rising electricity costs. The government could provide subsidies to help people afford electricity tokens. Kenya Power could also improve its efficiency in order to reduce the cost of generating and distributing electricity.

In the meantime, Kenyans are facing a difficult choice: either they can cut back on their electricity use, or they can pay more for electricity tokens.

Akothee’s reaction after KPLC handed her hefty electricity bill that’s enough to buy 3 Toyota Vitz

Kenya Power has handed Akothee a seven figure electricity bill for her palatial upcountry home in Rongo, Migori County.

Akothee’s caused a stir when she shared a copy of her power bill, the amount is absurd given that her electricity usage is for domestic purposes and not industrial.

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has handed Akothee a hefty electricity bill that’s enough to buy 3 Toyota Vitz; Kes 791,223 for her Rongo home and Kes 100,000 for her house in Mombasa.

The flamboyant singer took to social media to grumble about how her power bill had all over sudden skyrocketed, she says that she used to pay 15k for her house in Mombasa before KPLC all over sudden shocked her with the 100k bill.

“Am I in kenya or some other country , what is happening with KPLC, my bills just erected from 15, 000 per month in mombasa to 100,000 per month , well I bought your lies & been paying it since I dint have time to follow up,” wrote Akothee in part.

The singer says that she received a call from KPLC to inform her that there had been systematic era for the past 4 years for her electricity bill for her house in Rongo; Kenye Power informed her that she was required to pay 700k urgently.

Akothee’s power bill for her home in Rongo

“Now I recieve a call saying they had systematic era for the past 4 years & that all the bills they sent for Rongo is an estimate , & am required to pay 700,000ksh urgently , Half of the times I have lived in Rongo, the power has been 75% off & forced to ran the generator 24/7, one of my employees said his bills rose from 900 ksh per month to 20, 000ksh in a one bedroomed house , & all of a sudden he gets a bill of 200,000 ksh , due to their systematic era again , whats happening , any one who is feeling the heat, & whats this constant visit on private residence , dont you have a protocal ?, how many times do we have to open the gate for your meter readers , who cant even identify themselves , & expect to be bribed , yet when there is an emergency you take years to come , even if its a transfomer bust , whats happening ? I need to uproot this shit & instal solar asap , someone send me contacts for solar system nkt” Akothee protested.
