What next “Togikwatako”- Museveni signs Age limit bill into Law

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has signed the controversial age limit bill into an act. After all the bloodshed and arrests that took place in the last quarter of 2017 lifting of the presidential age limit was voted into law by parliament.

According to the director of Communication of Parliament, Chris Obore, the bill was signed into law on December, 27th.

The bill is therefore now an act before the clerk of Parliament.

“We received communication from State House about the signing and as we talk, it is before the clerk”, Obore said.

About the Bill

Legislators on December 20th, 2017, passed the Constitution amendment bill dropping the 75 year upper age limit for presidential candidates and extending the term of Parliament to seven years.

Members of Parliament were given money, in order to buy their support for the pro removal of age limit campaign.

The money given to the MPS was to help them in consultations about the age limit bill, in their different constituencies. This Constitution Ammendment Bill is in line with removal of the presidential age limit, which is currently from 35 to 75, hence allowing life presidency.

Six opposition Members of Parliament had initially rejected this money, calling it dirty, and recently, more and more are joining.

If you thought it was not possible for anyone in their rightful senses to reject a sum of twenty nine million Uganda Shillings, we have evidence from Hon Robert Kyagulanyi.

The letter to the bank

While other Members of parliament took the money in cash to the Finance Officer.  Bobi Wine/ Robert Kyagulanyi sent a letter back to his bank, rejecting the money, a sum of 29,000,000, before heading of to consult his people on the bill.

He then proceeded to his people, dressed in a red togikwatako uniform, and addressed them on this removal.

Besides Bobi Wine, other opposition legislators have also refused to be part of the move to support this bill.

The activist, and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) mobilizer of  the board was at Makerere University for a fundraising drive and the goat was to be an item on sale. However, Ingrid dressed her goat in red ribbons and this attracted police attention.

When they took Ingrid’s goat

The police moved towards the activist and took over the goat. Before this, there was a lot of drama as the two teams each pulled the animal towards them.

The people of Kanungu however made Ingrid’s weekend and gave her three new goats. This is Uganda.
