Bridget: I bleached after TV rejected me because I was dark-skinned. I didn’t change my skin colour because of a man

Socialite Bridget Achieng has opened up yet again on why she decided to bleach her skin.

Speaking in an interview on NTV, Achieng said being a dark skin frustrated her because she was always treated negatively.

“I didn’t change my skin color because of a man, I changed it to feel good about myself. Because at that time I felt that if I complied to society’s standards of beauty, I would look better and get anything I want,” she revealed on the Wicked Edition.

Rejected

Achieng shared a story where she was rejected for a TV job because she dark-skinned a thing that really broke her heart.

“I once went to an interview for a TV station. I won’t mention the name. I was the first runners up but walinikataa juu mimi ni mweusi wakachukua msichana mwingine hapo zero-zero juu ni light skin. So kutoka hapo nilijam. Nikasema ni juu ya kupaka mafuta? Nikaamua kupaka mafuta nikuwe mweupe. It has worked in my favour. I don’t regret doing it anyway that’s why I say it boldly.”

Socialite Bridget Achieng explains why she named her baby after deadbeat father who ordered her to abort

Socialite Bridget Achieng has offered an explanation on why she chose to name her baby after her baby daddy who wanted nothing to do with her.

Her baby daddy, a West African man, walked away immediately after the socialite informed him that she was carrying his baby. In fact, he wanted her to abort but Ahcineg refused.

The Nairobi Diaries actress told her fans in a video that she has still named the baby after him despite all that because her son was a boy, and one day he’ll need to connect with his roots.

Sekani is an Egyptian name meaning ‘joy’ and Sekani has brought me joy… I am giving my child a name with meaning first one means joy as I don’t want my child to be sad because most of my childhood I was sad because no one was listening to me because my mum was like ‘Bridget ameenda shule amekula ako sawa.’ I called him ‘Rich’ because I want him to be rich, I don’t want him to lack anything. I want everything that is in this world he can acquire it,” she explained in a video dedicated to her son.

Trace his roots

Bridget Achieng’s son

Opeyemii is the baby daddy’s name and Achieng said that one day, his son will go track his dad.

“I have given him Opeyemii because that is his father’s native name. I know many people will ask why you gave him the baby daddy’s name, but you know what he is a boy and he will have to go to his roots someday. Like I said my baby will know everything I will teach him everything I will not coat anything,” she disclosed.

Bridget Achieng reveals the amount she spent to ‘lighten’ her skin, we are talking about millions!

The skin lightening business has become pretty much successful in Africa. Many women bleach or rather skin lighten their skin with products they know nothing about just to look ‘beautiful’ in the eyes of men who like light skinned women.

After Vera Sidika confessed to have undergone a Ksh50 million procedure to alter her skin… many women rushed to the river road shops hoping to achieve the same look but only at a cheaper price.
So does it work?

Well, for some women I hear it does work but not permanent since one has to keep going back to use the skin products to avoid getting back their original skin-tone.

Anyway Bridget Achieng is among those women who have altered their skin-tones to look beautiful. She confessed about this while speaking on Dr Ofweneke’s show where she revealed the amount of money she used to achieve her new skin-tone.

“I have lost count right now but the last time I checked it was close to 3 Million Kshs or so. It’s part of my life you to accept and sit down and decide you wanna do this. You don’t just wake up and decide you wanna do a skin tan.”

According to her she did this because she never felt pretty while growing since her parents never took time to appreciate her.

“From when I was a kid I never felt beautiful because African parents never tell you that you are beautiful. I never felt loved as a kid, I will be honest. So I thought if I do it I would feel beautiful…I don’t regret anything and the attention it comes with it keeps me going.”

Bridget Achieng also went on to add that she would advise any lady who feel like bleaching to go ahead and do it. She said

“I would advise any girl (to bleach). Men will tell you to stay like that then the next day you see them in a restaurant with a light skinned girl.”
