Boda boda robber denies fresh robbery despite admitting to being a prolific thief

A man suspected of robbing a woman of her phone on Outering Road in Embakasi, Nairobi, was caught by the public and police and charged with stealing from a person.

The suspect, John Ngumbu Kanyi, allegedly accosted and slapped the woman before snatching her phone and fleeing on his motorbike. The woman alerted a bodaboda rider who had dropped her off in the area, and they chased after Kanyi.

Kanyi tried to flee again when the rider stopped him, but he fell off his motorbike and was restrained by the rider and members of the public. Police officers who were on patrol in the area arrived and arrested Kanyi.

Kanyi was also charged with handling stolen property after he was found with the woman’s phone. He denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh7000. The case will be mentioned on February 9th and the hearing will start on May 15, 2023.

Kanyi is also facing charges of robbery with violence for allegedly robbing a businessman of two mobile phones in Nairobi’s Eastlands. He is accused of robbing the businessman on July 1, 2023, and speeding off on a motorcycle.

The businessman’s neighbour identified the motorcycle before it disappeared, and police later traced the owner of the motorcycle and helped officers arrest Kanyi. Kanyi denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh100,000 or a cash bail of Sh50,000.

Police in Nairobi are investigating the theft of a businessman’s pistol inside a club in Karen on Sunday, November 11, 2023.

According to a police reports, the man was stupefied by a woman he knew before being robbed of his pistol.

The man told police that he met with the woman and spent time together at the club before blacking out. He said he took a bottle of water, which he believes may have been spiked.

CCTV footage from the club shows the man walking with two women to his car. He entered his car but woke up seven hours later when a security guard went to check on him. His pistol, two mobile phones, and an unknown amount of money were missing.

Later that evening, the businessman’s wife received a call from a taxi driver who said he had carried two women to Ruiru and left a black bag in his car. The taxi driver was able to contact the businessman’s family using information found in the bag.

Police have launched a manhunt for the woman who was last seen in the company of the businessman.

Police Search for Owner of Gun Left at Nairobi Restaurant

Police in Nairobi are searching for the owner of a gun that was left at a restaurant in the Kilimani area on October 17, 2023.

The gun, a Steyr C9-A2 MF pistol loaded with 16 bullets, was discovered on the cistern in the men’s restroom of CJ’s Restaurant at the Ola Petrol Station along Argwings Kodhek Road.

Police believe that the gun was accidentally left behind by a licensed firearm holder who had visited the restaurant. The restaurant manager contacted the authorities, who arrived at the scene and took custody of the firearm.

Detectives are investigating the incident and are trying to trace the owner of the gun. They are also reminding firearm holders to be careful and to keep their weapons safe and secure at all times.

Police hot on th trail of criminals that kidnapped Eastleigh businesswoman

Police are looking into the case of a woman who was kidnapped while traveling to her job as a drink vendor at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Shankara Adan Hassan, 39, has been missing since October 12. Her family said that their efforts to find her had been ineffective.

She has reportedly been selling tea in the airport’s cargo area, according to her family. She was born in Mandera, according to documentation made by the family.

She was riding in a taxi from Eastleigh Section 3 to JKIA when it was flagged down by people pretending to be police officials.

The motorist claims to have stopped on Likoni Road in Nairobi close to the Likoni bridge. There are other claims made. On Yusuf Haji Road in Eastleigh, not far from her home.

The driver claimed that when he passed the salon car, guys in it flagged him down, and he reported the incident to the Industrial Area. The incident happened at 10:00 pm.
The two passengers came to a stop when he pulled over as a police officer in full uniform entered and motioned for the female passenger to get in their car.

After that, the driver was told that she was wanted and was being escorted to Shauri Moyo Police Station to be questioned.

The driver said he usually picked the woman up in Eastleigh and drove her off at the airport because she had been his client.

He called the victim’s family right away to inform them of what had happened, and when they arrived at Shauri Moyo Police Station they were horrified to learn that their sister had disappeared.

The victim was forced to board a car that did not have the victim’s registration number, according to the police.

Police seized the driver and interrogated him. This came about after it turned out he was giving conflicting details about the incident.

Since then, the woman’s family alleges they haven’t been able to find her. Nobody has contacted me.
They want the police to investigate the situation and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the alleged hijacking of her. They are not aware of what caused the occurrence.
Police said they are looking into the incident and at this point have no idea who might be responsible or what their motivation was.
Leaders from North Eastern Kenya urged the president to keep his word and put an end to enigmatical disappearances.

Hussein Waitan, a member of parliament for Mandera East, remarked, “These disappearances used to be in the last government, in this government we thought they would come to an end and here we are.”
“Just these few days someone disappeared in Bura and another one in Ijara,” said Lagdera MP Abdikadir Mohammed. “I think the president needs to come out and crack the whip.”
In the midst of looking for the woman, authorities said that the cab driver would likely be charged on Monday.

Missing Nairobi lady found dead

Mercy Cherop Nyamasia, a 27-year-old woman who was reported missing on October 10, 2023, died in a road accident on September 22, 2023, according to her father and the police.

Nyamasia’s father, David Kipkoech, had reported her disappearance at the Villa Embakasi Police Station, but it was not until Thursday, October 12, 2023, that the police informed him that she had died in the accident.

Police reports indicate that Nyamasia sustained severe internal injuries in the accident, which occurred along the Outer Ring Road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nyamasia owned a beauty shop in the Pipeline area of Nairobi, and she is believed to have been traveling home from work on the day of the accident.

Her body will be moved to Lomaiwe-Mochongoi in Baringo South for burial.

This is a tragic story, and our condolences go out to Nyamasia’s family and friends.

Police officer commits suicide at DCI headquarters

A junior police officer committed suicide on Wednesday at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Nairobi by shooting himself in the head.

His coworkers claimed that he shot himself in the head with a gun in the parking lot after locking himself inside his car. He passed away instantly.

It was not immediately clear why the police officer took such drastic measures. When his coworkers checked after hearing a shot from the parking lot at the operations division, they discovered he had died.

He was shot in the head. In preparation for an autopsy, his body was taken to the mortuary.

Senior personnel were present in the office at the time of the occurrence. The event caused a panic.

This incident is the latest in a series of suicides by police officers in Kenya. Last week, a senior officer committed suicide in the Utawala neighborhood of Nairobi.

Police authorities have started offering counseling services as part of measures to stop the trend, and the National Police Service Commission has set up and staffed a unit to handle their demanding circumstances.

The counseling section will, among other things, assess, plan, and direct an outreach program that aids in the prevention of mental illness and drug abuse.

Every month, there are at least three examples of police personnel who commit suicide.

According to officials, cops are typically the ones that deal with concerns in the neighborhood. In addition to risking their lives, they are expected to preserve law and order in extremely challenging circumstances.

Trauma has been connected to an increase in service-related mortality throughout the years.

Why are police officers committing suicide?

Touts Clash in Nairobi, One Fatally Stabbed

A dispute over passengers on Nairobi’s Tom Mboya Street resulted in one tout being fatally stabbed by another. The two touts were members of different matatu Saccos that operate on the same routes.

The incident happened on Sunday night after an argument over where to park to pick up passengers travelling to the Kasarani route. 31-year-old tout Jairus Nyutu Nuthu was stabbed in the neck and bled to death.

The attacker, who police suspect works for a Sacco on the Nairobi-Mwiki-Kasarani route, fled the scene and has not yet been found. Police reports state that the attacker had been following his victim for a while before starting the altercation that resulted in the stabbing.

Nyutu Nuthu’s body was transported to the mortuary pending an autopsy. The murder weapon was recovered from the scene.

Three-Year-Old Boy Dies in Freak Accident

In a separate incident, a three-year-old boy was tragically killed in Kirua, Meru County, while using a ladder to climb a miraa tree.

According to the boy’s parents, he climbed the ladder up to the miraa tree to copy what he had been seeing before he slipped and fell but managed to cling on to his shirt.

The child was choked by his shirt that was attached to the ladder. His body was found on the ladder long after he had passed away. His parents were not there when the incident took place.

Police responded to the site and took the body to the mortuary for an autopsy and investigation.

Kenyan Mchawi sentenced for beheading girlfriend for ritual

Wechuli, a traditional healer who resided in Kawangware, Nairobi, left for home with Jane Kadogo Mutiso, his longtime partner of four months. Wechuli, who shared a home with his two children, called his daughter and requested her to fetch him a knife sometime after they had gone to bed.

The neighbor’s daughter overheard the healer asking someone to get on their knees and plead for forgiveness a little while afterwards. The daughter glanced through a gap in the door, enthralled by what she saw. The two were naked, and the male was urging the woman to close her eyes. He had a knife in his hand at the moment.

The youngster hurried over to her mother right away and told her what they had seen when they saw the man with his two kids and without the spouse.

In reaction to this, a mother and daughter went back to peek, and when they used a torch they found a leg. They called the watchman, who then got in touch with the landlord’s son, who dialed the watchman to unlock Wechuli’s house.

They were shocked to find a woman’s naked, decapitated body inside. Kadogo’s intestines were visible due to a cut in her stomach. There was a knife found nearby the body.
The witnesses went to the Muthangari police station and reported what they had seen after seeing this.

After being placed in a basket, Kadogo’s head was discovered by the police when they arrived. Additional ceremonial materials including a feather, twigs, and sorghum sticks were kept in a calabash. The victim was placed next to the bleeding knife. The cause of death was determined by an autopsy to be blunt force trauma lesions in the neck and abdomen. The DNA investigation revealed that the body and head belonged to Kadogo.

Later, Wechuli appeared at the police station and was held there. After being transported to the Kabete Police Station, he was sent to the Mathari Hospital for a mental health assessment.

The doctor concluded that the man’s mental state was normal, and the trial began with the prosecution calling 11 witnesses. Wechuli said, when challenged, that he had no wish to kill his partner.

Despite his protestations that he felt lightheaded and weary throughout that time, Kadogo insisted that they keep making love. The woman’s voice sounded like an epileptic when he rested on her chest in response to her pain.

According to information provided to the High Court, Wechuli saw a sizable hand coming toward him and used a big knife he was holding to chop it. Before the head appeared, he saw a vision of a body without a head. Then he perceived himself in a wilderness with an iron sheet shanty and a light.

Wechuli asserted that he saw the man take a head in his hand, chuck it, gather his kids, and lead them to their mother’s house in Kibera. On the way to the bus terminal, he said that he had a stomach ache and could smell alcohol.

Wechuli saw a crowd as he got home after dropping his kids off and a woman screaming, “The grandfather has killed someone.” Wechuli continued by stating that traditional medicine was utilized to treat and cure him for mental health concerns he had in 1986.

“According to him, if he was in his right mind, he would not have murdered the deceased. He pleaded that he had no intention of committing the offence,”

The trial court came to the conclusion that, taken as a whole, the evidence indicated that the defendant knew exactly what he was doing and that his intent to cause death was very evident.
He had not also demonstrated his insanity.

On March 8, the court handed down the death penalty after finding him guilty. In a petition to the Court of Appeal, Wechuli argued that the trial judge had violated the law by failing to consider his mental state at the time of the offense.

After reviewing the case, the court learned that the prosecution’s request for Wechuli to undergo a second exam was granted. When he was 12 years old, the boy overheard his father say that his son had a mental illness.

Police Investigate Death of One-Year-Old Child Found in Well

Police in Nairobi are investigating the death of a one-and-a-half-year-old child whose body was found in a well at a residential apartment in Kawangware.

The child’s mother had earlier reported him missing. It was not until hours later that a neighbor who had gone to draw water from the well stumbled upon the child’s body floating. She raised the alarm, prompting fire brigade officials to respond. They successfully retrieved the body.

Police said they are yet to establish how the boy drowned. Residents said the well had been left uncovered and suspected the child drowned accidentally.

Man Stabbed to Death in Robbery Incident

A middle-aged man was stabbed to death in a robbery incident in Mathare slums, Nairobi. The victim’s body was found in a pool of blood on Saturday night.

Police said the victim is suspected of having resisted a robbery incident in Takataka area, prompting the violent attack on him. The body was found with stab wounds in the stomach and chest.

A suspect was seen escaping from the scene and police say a hunt on him is ongoing.

Man Dies at Home After Complaining of Stomachache

Police in Kitengela, Kajiado County, are investigating the death of a man who died at his house after complaining of a stomachache.

Shadrack Ndunda was brought to his house hours after he had left for work in the area and started to complain of pain in the stomach. His clothes were muddy, police said.

His wife told police she rushed him to Kitengela sub-county hospital, where he was treated and discharged the same day.

But on Friday his condition worsened and he died in the house.

Police who visited the scene said the body had bruises on the right hand at the elbow, suspected to be a bite by human teeth.

All three of these deaths are tragic and our thoughts are with the victims’ families and friends. We hope that the police are able to investigate these cases thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Police arrest robbery suspect in Nairobi, two suspects lynched by mobs

Nairobi: A pillion passenger was shot and killed while his rider was arrested in a robbery incident in Nairobi’s California area.

Police say the two had been robbing mobile phones from pedestrians along First Avenue when the victims raised an alarm. The pillion passenger was shot and killed as the rider lost control and landed on the pavement.

The 51-year-old rider was arrested and a pistol was found on him, police said. The body was moved to the mortuary.

Elsewhere, two suspects were lynched by mobs in the city. One was lynched in Mukuru Kayaba and the other at Soko Mjinga within the Kawangware area.

The victims were accused of robbing pedestrians before an alarm was raised alerting mobs. Police discourage mob lynching and term it criminal.

Police hunt for gang that raided bar in Eldoret

Police are looking for a gang that raided a bar in the Yamumbi area, Eldoret and stole 13 bottles of vodka and an unknown amount of money.

The gang of about five raided Home Ground Restaurant aboard a salon car with their face covered with masks.

Waiters at the joint told police the gang was armed with crude weapons and ordered the two employees to open the counter. They then grabbed a laptop, three smartphones, two small phones, 13 bottles of Vodka and an unknown amount of money.

They later escaped using the same motor vehicle to an unknown destination, police said. A hunt on the gang is ongoing, police said.

Two suspected thugs killed in separate attempted robberies in Limuru and Nairobi

Two suspected thugs were shot and killed in separate attempted robberies in Limuru and Nairobi.

Police said they recovered weapons from the suspects and that some escaped the shooting drama. Two other suspects were arrested in the drama.

The first incident happened in Limuru outside an apartment, police said. Police said a team was patrolling in the Marieta area on Saturday night when they found a gang trying to break into Lesley Apartment.

According to police, they were challenged to surrender but one of them drew a pistol and aimed at the officers, which prompted the officers to fire back fatally injuring him as the other two managed to escape to an unknown destination.

Police said they recovered a toy pistol and a panga that had been secured on the left side of his waist. The body was taken to the city mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem examination.

Househelp charged for defiling employer’s 5-year old son

A 30-year-old Ugandan woman was charged with defiling her employer’s 5-year-old son in Nairobi.

Grace Akware was accused of defiling the child, identified as CSM, after picking him up from school on August 31. The alleged incident took place inside the child’s bedroom at his parents’ house.

Akware is accused of undressing the child and putting him on the bed, before allegedly defiling him. The child later disclosed the incident to his siblings and parents, who reported it to the police.

Akware denied the charges when she appeared in court, but was remanded in custody pending a pre-bail report. The report will be tabled on September 22nd, when the court will set bail and bond terms for Akware.

Drunkard in court for groping police woman at busaa den during raid

A 32-year-old guy has been accused of engaging in an indecent act with an adult after it was reported that he fondled a female police officer’s breast during a raid at an illegal drinking establishment in Makongeni, Nairobi.

According to section 11(a) of the Sexual Offenses Act of 2006, Erick Kibagendi is accused of purposefully caressing the police officer’s breast without getting her permission.

The accused person is also accused of beating up police constable Rodgers Wandera, who was on duty at the time, in violation of section 103(a) of the National Police Service (NPS) Act of 2011.

A second allegation of resisting an arrest by a police officer in violation of the NPS Act is also brought against Mr. Kibangendi.

When the public informed PC Wandera and his two female colleagues that there was a residence where partygoers were consuming busaa, a popular traditional brew, they were on patrol in the area.

When the officers arrived at the premises, they discovered drunks, among them Mr. Kibangendi. While his two female coworkers stood guard at the front door, the male officer entered the residence to search it.

After being questioned about why he had indecently assaulted the woman, Mr. Kibangendi is said to have gone to the door that the female police officers were guarding and touched one of them on her breast and threatened them.

He is alleged to have warned the officers that they would not be going anywhere and dared them to do what they could.

He allegedly resisted the three officers’ attempts to restrain him and struck PC Wandera with a blunt weapon, wounding him.
He was ultimately subdued and taken into custody by the officers before being held at Makongeni Police Station.

Before Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani of the Makadara Law Courts, the accused refuted the accusations. He testified before the court that he has no memory of the incident because he was intoxicated at the time.

 

The accused further asserted that the police officers hurt him and that he lost Sh6,500 during the arrest.

Construction worker dies, 4 injured in slab collapse at Parklands site

Police in Parklands are investigating the death of a construction worker who was killed when a slab collapsed on him at a site along Githuri Road.

The deceased, identified as Samson Muhanji, was working on the 18th floor of the building when the slab gave way. Four other workers were injured in the incident.

One of the injured workers said that they were not being provided with protective gear, making their jobs very dangerous. “We also fear raising the concerns because they will kick you out,” said the worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The National Construction Authority (NCA) and the county government are investigating the matter.

This is the latest in a series of fatal accidents at construction sites in Nairobi. In recent months, there have been several cases of workers falling from heights or being crushed by falling objects.

In one case, a worker died after falling from the 12th floor of a building in Westlands. In another case, a worker was killed when a wall collapsed on him in Eastleigh.

The NCA has called for stricter safety measures at construction sites. The authority has also urged workers to speak up if they see safety violations.

In a separate incident, a five-year-old boy drowned in a water borehole at a construction site in Mwiki.

The boy, who has not been identified, was playing with other children in the area when he fell into the hole. His body was recovered a short time later.

The owner of the construction site is being questioned by the police over the incident.

Woman falsely accused of being Mathe wa Ngara spoeaks of her ordeal

Kenyans have been captivated by the story of Teresia Wanjiru and Mathe wa Ngara, following a recent drug bust.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kenya announced that a woman suspected to be behind drug deals in Ngara had been arrested.

Mathe wa Ngara, the alleged popular bhang seller in Ngara, was arrested in a police operation in Nairobi yesterday.

Mathe, who is said to operate around Kariya B in Nairobi County, disappeared when Teresia Wanjiru was arrested on Tuesday, August 15.

The DCI said in a tweet that they arrested Teresia alongside three minors after the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Transnational Organized Crime Unit raided her place in the slums of Karuia within Ngara.

Teresia spoke to NTV on Sunday, August 20, describing the events leading to her arrest. She said that she was in her small hotel, as she calls it, when the police raided her place. She said that she was not aware of any drugs being sold in her hotel and that she was innocent of the charges against her.

The police have not yet released any information about Mathe wa Ngara’s arrest. However, the arrest of Teresia Wanjiru and the alleged drug bust in Ngara have sparked a lot of speculation and discussion in Kenya. Many people are wondering who Mathe wa Ngara is and what role she played in the drug trade.

24-Year-Old Man Survives Sexual Assault and Being thrown out of Truck

A 24-year-old man is lucky to be alive after being thrown out of a speeding truck by his driver. The man claims to have been sexually assaulted by the driver before being thrown out.

The man had been working as an assistant to the driver, transporting cargo to different countries. They had met when the driver was a customer at the man’s car washing business.

The driver offered the man a job as his assistant, and the man accepted. They traveled together to Mombasa and Tanzania, and then back to Mombasa.

On the way back to Mombasa, the driver started hitting on the man. The man rejected his advances, and the driver became angry.

The driver took out a knife and put it to the man’s throat. He then raped and kicked the man while the truck was moving.

The man was eventually able to escape from the truck and was found by good Samaritans. He was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

The man is now receiving psychological support and is taking medication to prevent infection. He is also planning to go back to school and start a new life.

Notorious Eastlands gangster shot and arrested by police

Woman discovered dead in Tena Estate

Police in Nairobi are investigating the deaths of three people in separate incidents.

Man’s Body Found in Nairobi River

Authorities in Nairobi are investigating the death of a man whose body was found floating in the Nairobi River near the Globe Cinema roundabout.

The man’s identity has not been released, and it is not clear how long he had been in the water. The Nairobi County fire brigade was called to the scene to help retrieve the body.

Kasarani Police Station under scrutiny again: Inspector demanded bribe from pregnant woman before releasing her

A police inspector in Kasarani Division has been charged with bribery. The officer, who has not been named, was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on July 27, 2023, for allegedly demanding a bribe from a complainant in order to release his pregnant girlfriend who had been arrested and detained at Kasarani Police Station.

The inspector was arraigned in court on July 28, 2023, and pleaded not guilty to the charges. She was released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 or a bond of Sh500,000 with a surety of the same amount. The case will be mentioned on August 22, 2023.

The inspector failed to show up in court for plea-taking on July 28, 2023. Instead, her lawyer informed the court that she had fallen ill and applied to defer the plea for two weeks. The court granted the application and ordered that the matter proceeds on August 9, 2023.

The inspector’s arrest is a reminder that corruption is a serious problem in Kenya. It is important for law enforcement officers to uphold the law and to not engage in corrupt practices. Majority Leader reveals DCI stole 300 million Kshs from him

During the anti-government protests last month, two arresting police officers, according to majority leader Peter Imwatok, were accused of taking USD2 million (Sh300 million).

Imwatok, a Makongeni MCA and senior principal magistrate in Milimani, informed Robison Ondieki on Wednesday that he lost the millions to two officials on July 21, 2023.

A hotel employee who witnessed the incident, he claimed to the court, strangely passed away two days after the arrest.

Shadrack Wambui was the attorney for Imwatok.

“Two police officers attached to DCI Headquarters serious Crime unit stole USD 2 million belonging to Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok from a safe at Radisson Blu Hotel Nairobi,”

Wambui testified before the court that a hotel employee who had since been slain strangely had helped the two police officers steal the money from the safe.

Imwatok, along with Makadara MP George Aladwa and Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto Nyangaresi, had fled into hiding after learning that police were pursuing them in order to detain them for allegedly engaging in subversive activity during the Azimio demonstrations.

When the two officers apprehended Imwatok from his hiding place at a hotel in Nairobi, Wambui reported to Magistrate Ondieki that money had been stolen.

In court on July 21, 2023, Wambui had requested that the two cops deliver the goods they had taken from Imwatok.

The magistrate had mandated that the two officers appear before him on Tuesday.

The officers, however, did not show up, but Gilbert Okemwa, the investigating officer, did. He showed up in court with two phones but not the USD 2 million.

Okemwa was obliged by the court to testify in order to provide information regarding the whereabouts of the two officers and the disputed funds.

Okemwa informed the magistrate that the two people who had Imwatok detained had not paid him any money.

“I confirm the only thing that is in the inventory is only the phones and nothing else. The USD 2 million was not handed to me by the two arresting officers,”

The cop did not, however, reveal the whereabouts of his two coworkers or the reason they did not comply with the court summons by appearing in court yesterday.

After Okemwa stated that the money is not an exhibit in the subversion case, Wambui encouraged the magistrate to stand his ground and order the two to return the USD 2 million they stole from Imwatok.

The defense attorney informed the jury that police have a well-known propensity for robbing suspects of their valuable possessions and money.

“This habit of police must be stopped by this honour court. Order the two officers to return Imwatok’s money or face prosecution,”

Imwatok was taken into custody by the police after Justice Diana Kavedza prohibited Aladwa, Ogeto, and other suspects from being taken into custody alongside him.

The three were given Ksh 100,000 in anticipatory bail while an investigation and subsequent prosecution took place.

Imwatok was detained by the police despite the High Court’s injunction being in effect, and he was charged with subversion with Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch.

Paul Ongili Owino, also known as Babu Owino, and Calvin Okoth, also known as Gaucho, both representatives for the Embakasi East constituency, were also detained and have been prosecuted in court in relation to the demonstration and the accompanying violence.

The magistrate instructed Imwatok to file a lawsuit in the High Court to recover the millions that were stolen.

September 13 will see the case heard.

A one-year-old child was crushed to death by a reversing lorry in Dandora, Nairobi.

The driver of the lorry, who was leaving for work at around 8am on Wednesday, did not see the child as he reversed out of the parking lot. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry has been detained for inspection, and the driver is being questioned by police.

In a separate incident, a beggar was lynched by a mob after he and another man beat to death his colleague in an argument over money.

The incident happened at Alsops River in Roasters area, Nairobi. The two men, who were believed to be good friends, had a disagreement about how to share the day’s collection. The argument escalated, and one of the men beat the other to death.

An angry mob then cornered the first man as he tried to escape, and they beat him to death as well. Police arrived at the scene and took the bodies to the mortuary.

Police are still searching for other suspects who may have been involved in the killing.

Both of these incidents are tragic, and our hearts go out to the families of the victims. We hope that the police will be able to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Man stabbed to death in Huruma, police investigate

Police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man who was stabbed by a mob in Huruma, Nairobi.

Immanuel Ochieng was attacked and stabbed on Thursday, July 28, 2023, when a group of youth went on the rampage in the area over the killing of a carwash dealer in a police operation.

The mob went on a rampage, attacking pedestrians and motorists indiscriminately. Ochieng was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to neck and head injuries on Saturday, July 30, 2023.

Police are looking for the mob responsible for the attack. They have also deployed more officers to the area to try to deter further violence.

In a separate incident, a gang robbed several motorists on Outering Road on Sunday, July 31, 2023.

A group of youths barricaded the road using stones and started to rob motorists. At least five motorists were robbed of their cash and valuables during the drama. One driver was stabbed in the head as he tried to fight off the gang.

Police were called to the scene and managed to clear the road, but no arrests have been made.

Police say the gang’s action is a continuation of last week’s riots in the area. They are urging locals to report any suspicious activity to the police.

The recent violence in Huruma has left residents feeling terrorized. They are calling on authorities to address the menace and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Upsetting video of househelp urinating in boss’ cup

Kenyans have expressed revulsion over a two-part CCTV video showing a housekeeper urinating in a cup in her employer’s kitchen.

Videos published on TikTok by user IamErastus appear to have been shot around 5:57 am on July 17, 2023.

With its back to the door leading outside, the camera looks into the kitchen. The woman picks up a cup from the clean dishes while she is standing next to the sink and stoops down holding it.

To urinate, she lifts her skirt. She pees three times, then pours the urine on the kitchen sink.

She then rinses the cup and puts it back in the sink before bending over with a kitchen towel to clean up the urine splash on the floor.

At 1:17 minutes into the video, Kenyans are responding to how appalled they are that this might be a situation occurring elsewhere.

The house manager can be seen returning to her regular tasks and washing all the filthy dishes in the sink in the second footage provided by the CCTV.

7 year old plummets to death in Kawangware

A 7 -year-old boy lost his life in Kawangware after he fell from the first floor of a house while playing with other kids.

Master Churchil Otieno was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment, police said.

The boy was playing on the floor with other children when he slid and fell off landing on his left hand.

Doctors said he had sustained internal injuries which led to his death on July 16.

Police were called to the scene and processed it as part of the probe into the incident.

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said experts are handling the incident.

Meanwhile, two people were electrocuted in separate incidents in the city.

The first incident happened in Eastleigh where a mason was electrocuted as he plastered a residential house under construction.

Police said Erick Juma, 30 was plastering the house on the eleventh floor when touched a live wire.

This electrocuted him on the spot in the July 13 incident. Police were called to the scene and processed it before the body was moved to the mortuary.

The incident happened in Juja B estate in Eastleigh. The construction was stopped to allow a probe, police said amid complaints many contractors do not adhere to safety rules.

In Korogocho, 54-year-old Munania Kananu was electrocuted on July 15 as she boiled water on an electric coil.

Police and her family said she accidentally touched the live wire, which killed her on the spot.

Nairobi hawkers to pay more taxes under new county budget

Nairobi hawkers will have to dig deeper into their pockets to finance the county’s Sh42.3 billion budget, as the new administration has introduced a number of new taxes.

The County Finance Bill 2023, tabled by the County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Planning, Mr Charles Kerich, has outlined the plans the county plans to put in place to raise Sh19.99 billion, which is its own revenue target.

One of the most significant changes is the increase in the daily market access fee for small traders or hawkers, which has been increased from Sh20 to Sh50 per day.

Other new taxes include Sh1,000 per tonne for fish traders in both formal and informal markets, Sh25 for each small box weighing 50kg of beads, Sh20 per roll of material/fabric, Sh25 per bundle of small ropes (12-24), Sh50 per bundle for larger bundles of ropes, Sh350 for used tyres to be collected, Sh100 for chicken by-products per 90kg bag, Sh50 for chicken by-products per 50kg bag, Sh100 per dozen leeks, Sh50 per 50kg bucket of madafu, Sh10 fee per head for selling of carcass head by products in both informal and formal markets, Sh1,000 per ton for carcasses bone by products, Sh20 for carcasses legs by products (bundle of 12), Sh50 per roll 50kg for hides and animal skin (processed), Sh200 for tomato in a normal box weighing 101 -150kg, Sh150 for tomato in a medium box, Sh50 for 1-50kg of miraa /muguka, Sh100 for 51kg -100kg of miraa /muguka, Sh100 for miraa /muguka pick up for 500kg in formal and informal markets, and Sh100 for ground nuts per 90kg bag.

The new taxes have been met with mixed reactions from hawkers, with some expressing anger and frustration, while others said they were willing to pay the higher fees if it meant that the county would improve their working environment.

The county government has said that the new taxes are necessary to raise revenue to fund its development projects. However, some critics have argued that the taxes are unfair and will only serve to burden the poor.

It remains to be seen how the new taxes will be implemented and whether they will be effective in raising revenue for the county.
