Mama Ida recounts how Raila Odinga deceived her into being his wife

Dr Ida Odinga, wife of Opposition leader Raila Odinga, shared the captivating story of how a clever surprise orchestrated by Raila hastened their engagement and eventual marriage.

Narrating the story at the 30th memorial anniversary of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, held on Saturday, January 20, in Kisumu, Ida began, “My boyfriend then, Raila Odinga, lied to me that he was taking me for a ride from Kisumu. He took me for a ride through villages and bushes until we arrived at a well-organised home. I asked him, ‘Where is this?’ and he casually responded, ‘This is my home.’”

Ida expressed her surprise, saying, “I was so shocked. I said, ‘Why didn’t you tell me that you are coming to your home? I would have prepared myself mentally and even dress-wise.’ When we got there, the next thing he told me was to come and meet his father.”

The unexpected encounter took Ida by surprise, and she admitted feeling scared at the prospect of meeting the revered Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

“Who am I to meet the Great Jaramogi Oginga Odinga?” she recalled, adding, “I was damn scared; I almost fainted, but I didn’t. So, I met the old man for the first time. He was such a nice person; he talked nicely, and in the end, he gave me 200 shillings. That was a long time ago. He said, ‘Go buy soda on your way.’ From that day, he made very quick arrangements for us to get married.”

The revelation brought laughter and applause from the audience, showcasing the romantic twist that played a role in Raila and Ida’s enduring love story.

Raila has consistently celebrated his love for Ida, acknowledging the sacrifices she made during his detention and the challenges she faced, including being fired from government positions multiple times to frustrate her.

In a separate event at Catholic University in 2021, Raila recounted his time in detention during President Daniel Moi’s regime, emphasising the strength and sacrifice of Ida in keeping the family together.

“Ida is a very strong person. She has gone through hell herself. For me, they can say I was a troublemaker,” Raila remarked.

The ODM leader highlighted the challenges Ida faced, including being thrown out of her house at Kenya High School with their children for maintaining contact with the detained Raila.

Despite facing adversity, Ida stood by her husband and even went to court to demand his presentation when he was arrested.

Raila praised Ida as a “strong pillar in support,” expressing gratitude for her unwavering commitment and strength throughout their journey.

“Without her, I would not be able to make it. Thank you, darling,” he concluded, affirming the enduring power of love and resilience in the face of adversity.

Ida Odinga tells all about Raila’s health

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio Coalition, has recovered from the illness that caused him to disappear from the public eye during the three-day protests scheduled by his team last week.

Raila’s wife, Ida Odinga, informed the Star on Monday morning that her husband was back on track and going about his business as usual.

“He has recovered well and is out and about conducting his activities. The cold has cleared,” she said briefly when asked about the ODM leader’s whereabouts.

Ida declined to comment on when the former Premier is likely to resurface in public to lead the anti-government campaign, saying she could only address Raila’s health problems.

Today marks exactly two weeks since the former Prime Minister kept a low profile, relying mostly on social media and proxies to deliver his messages.

The ODM leader has been conspicuously missing from platforms where the opposition is engaging wananchi, including press conferences and street demonstrations.

Asked if there could be any other challenge with the former Prime Minister, to explain his long silence, Ida said, “There is nothing to worry about.”

Raila’s absence from the public eye had sparked speculation about his health, with some reports claiming that he had been hospitalized. However, Ida’s statement confirms that Raila was simply recovering from a cold.

Raila’s return to the public eye comes at a time when the opposition is gearing up for another round of protests against the Finance Act, 2023, and to press for electoral reforms. The government has warned the opposition against holding the protests, but Raila has vowed to go ahead with them.

It remains to be seen how the government will respond to the protests, but Raila’s return to the public eye is a sign that he is not backing down from his fight against the government.

Ida Odinga was right, churches need to be reigned in

Remember when Ida Odinga was telling Kenyans that the government needs to step in and regulate churches because they had gone wild with insanity? Pepperidge Farms remember! (Google that reference). And Kenyans were quick to lampoon her as if she wasn’t right.

Now that a cult in Malindi has been exposed for preaching demonic madness and getting it’s members to starve in a bid to get to see Jesus, Kenyans are beginning to take note.

But what her husband’s political rivals did, you know, the guys who eventually took office, President Ruto and his deputy who is more suited to be a village chief than a national leader was to close ranks with the errant churches.

Churches have not only become a den of thieves and scammers but now they are harbouring charismatic psychopaths who are going out of their way to kill as many people as possible with a bastardized version of the gospel.

Now what’s left? It’s a bunch of families mourning the deaths of their loved ones who were both vulnerable and stupid enough to get absorbed into a cult and then we will act angry and the cycle repeats itself in the next few years.

Ida Odinga blasts Jalang’o and Jakakimba

Ida Odinga was in attendance at Akothee’s star-studded wedding and while there, she was asked to make a speech and greet the people in attendance. This is keeping in line with the Kenyan custom of giving the “biggest people” in the room the chance to acknowledge the host.

The day Jalang’o insulted Raila about why he moved to Ruto’s camp

And while speaking about her relationship with Akothee, Ida Odinga decided to also acknowledge some other celebrities in attendance with whom she shares a political journey and they were Jalang’o and Jakakimba.

“I am so happy to see some of my best friends, and some of them were best friends until the elections. One of them is Jalang’o.”

Fans tear Jalang’o a new one for “betraying” Raila

She used a story to tell Jalas to return home telling the crowd that she and he are neighbours in the village and he knows the road they share.

“You know the road, the Kisumu-Busia road separates your home from my home, and we come from the same village.”

Raila’s wife warns young people against killing for love: If you find her too smart, look for a dumb one like you

Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga has chipped on the increased cases of spouse-related murders being experienced in Kenya by urging younger people to avoid the killings, and keep on looking for suitable partners.

Speaking in Homa Bay, Ida advised the youth to stop killing their partners for love but instead walk out of toxic relationships and look for other soulmates.

“You are not the first people to fall in love, if you are rejected by a lady don’t kill her, there are many more. If you find her too smart, look for a dumb one like you. There are more ladies,” she said.

Murders

This year alone, at least 20 women have been killed. Kenyans have been left seeking for answers as more and more couples have hit the headlines following the gruesome murders.

What has surprised many is the fact that Raila Odinga has a romantic side that not many knew nothing about. He is however not the first politician to publicly kiss his wife but what we can’t deny is that ‘baba’ also has a romantic side.
