Kenya has a mental health crisis

Kenya has a mental health crisis and you don’t have to be a certified psychologist or psychiatrist to see the truth in that statement. Kenyans are suffering in silence and no one really knows what to do until things boil over and we have another murder to report on the news.

Olivia Naseren, woman who st@bbed and @te her daughter arraigned in court

The number of horrific homicides the police are currently investigating seem to increase with each new dawn with the latest being the incident in which a mother k!lled her daughter by st@bbing her 100 times and then proceeded to consume her intestines and part of her other internal organs.

The barbarism and savagery we have been witness can only be explained by a mental health crisis that is not being addressed. And regardless of what the trigger might be; economic hardship or unrequited love, the government needs to find a way of addressing this mess. Kenya is now a literal killing field and we’re just lucky that unlike Americans, guns aren’t readily available to the general public.

For now the only thing one can probably do is start some sort of buddy system that has you checking up on your friends and loved ones.

Alcoholics Are Turning Sunday Into A Drinking Day

Despite the fact that Kenyans are high tax payers struggling to make ends meet, we’re among the happiest nations in the world.
We have faced lots of hardships economically, but we remain happy despite the latter.
Additionally, we’re party animals, who can splash thousands on alcohol and having fun. It’s what makes us even happier, and we don’t give a damn about the political regime.

We have witnessed sporadic periods of inflation but we still try to make ends meet.

Sunday Service

Recently, Nairobi Governor Sakaja banned night clubs operating around residential areas. This sparked a debate on whether churches should also be closed around residential areas. Bear in mind nowadays not most people fancy religion. But clubbing is the deal of the day for most netizens.

They have turned a worshipping day into a drinking day. The drinking spree has made Kenyans embrace partying more & more.

The weekend is normally a day of having fun by drinking with friends and family. And Sunday is now part of it.
Clubs are now taking over the Sunday service(s), where netizens are supposed to worship and bond. It’s killing our culture. But no one cares anyway. Instead, churches are now being prioritized over clubs by Nairobi Governor. But the numbers are in clubs. Maybe he should re-consider the decision. Most Kenyans have proved to be happy with alcohol.

Kenyans Prove That For You To Be A Star, You Must Get Numbers From Them

Without a doubt, Kenyans are among the countries with the best taste when it comes to music. Most Kenyans are active on social media and music streaming platforms. For this reason, we never lack recent updates on the latest jams.

Statistically, Kenyans give the greatest numbers to some foreign countries, including Nigerians & Tanzanians. It’s quite ironical, but still the truth.

The most listened to music is in Kenya is foreign music. With the most popular genres being Afrobeats, Bongo, Dancehall & Amapiano. They have immensely had an impact in Kenya. Even though activists like Eric Omondi have  proactively tried to protest an improvement of Kenyan sounds, nothing seems to be working for Kenyans.

Musicians Made Famous By Kenyans

Diamond Platnumz Teases New Music Video From The 'FOA' EP

That being said, most foreign artists wouldn’t have become famous if it wasn’t for Kenyans listening to their music. A good example is Nigeria’s Ruger. His most recent hit girlfriend has surpassed 26 million views. And most of his views come from Kenya. Tanzanian examples include Diamond and his protégé Zuchu. Ironically, most of their views come from Kenya than their own home Tanzania. Similarly, Mbosso scoops his views from Kenya than his home country Tanzania.

These are among the numerous artists who have been made famous by Kenyans.

Cheki Maneno!  Ezekiel Mutua bans DJ Afro’s movies

Kenya Film and Classification Board boss has stop the airing of DJ Afro movies on a popular Kikuyu TV channel. KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua took to social media to share that the body had to cut the movies from airing saying that they should be submitted for examination and classification for age suitability.

On Facebook he posted a bunch of pictures with Gikuyu TV’s management and DJ Afro discussing the matter and the way forward. For those who have no idea who DJ Afro is, this is just not an ordinary DJ.

DJ Afro

Examination

Afro translates and narrates movies making it easy for those struggling with English to understand what’s going on. He’s been doing it for over 20 years now. Mutua shared DJ Afro and Gikuyu TV will be submitting the movies first for examinations before airing.

“Today KFCB management met with the controversial James Muigai aka DJ Afro, his promoter and manager following our banning of his unpalatable content aired on Gikuyu TV and also distributed by unscrupulous business people and exhibited in public places without approval by the Board. DJ Afro admitted the illegality of his actions and took responsibility for the same while pointing out that the content being distributed and exhibited across the country is an illegal reproduction of his works done many years ago.

“It was agreed that the Board will communicate its position to the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to have the culprits arrested and the illegal material destroyed and that Gikuyu TV will suspend forthwith the airing of unrated material. All content generated by DJ Afro will be submitted for examination and classification for age suitability.”

Haters! Kenyans not happy after Waiguru made it to this top-selling magazine’s cover

Drama surrounding Ann Waiguru, the Kirinyaga County Governor, has always been epic and enough to be rolled into one entertaining movie.

There’s always something happening around her that Kenyans have an opinion about.

The governor was recently interviewed by True Love Magazine and featured as the cover woman for March’s issue as “an iron lady”, a thing that didn’t go down well with some Kenyans.

Ann Waiguru

She’s not iron enough

According to some, Waiguru is nothing close to an Iron lady and bashed the magazine for propping her. Others bashed True Love for celebrating corrupt individuals and claimed they won’t buy the edition.

Here’s what Kenyans said:

Not music and not even politics…this is the only thing that unites all Kenyans(VIDEO) #Mpesa

“What is the one thing that unites all Kenyans” an African American friend of mine asked me on skype the other day.

He’s looking to travel to Africa but he’s yet to settle on which country to visit.

For a whole 2 seconds I was a bit confused and then an idea hit me….M Pesa people!

I mean we all use it, we love it, we can’t live without it and is definitely embraced by all of us…and in a country like Kenya where every other project, innovation or profession is linked to a tribe…M Pesa has managed to remain neutral.

Actually what it has done is unite and empower Kenyans.

It’s celebrating 10 years since it’s inception and it has done nothing but grow overtime. And it continues to grow and with your support of course.

And for that Safaricom is asking that you join them in celebrating this major fete and ask that you continue supporting them as they embark in making all our lives better.

Have a look at this video which perfectly puts it into perspective:
