6 Foods That Help To Accelerate Fat Loss.

Just like with everything else, not all foods are the same when it comes to weight loss. Some foods can kill your appetite, boost the amount of burned calories, or both.  What makes these foods effective in stimulating weight is their fiber and protein content.  Here are 6 foods proven to be fat-burning foods.

1. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is made up of medium-chain triglycerides, types of fats which are metabolized differently than other fats.  It has been scientifically shown that they boost the number of burned calories by up to 120 calories daily. One study has show that people who ate two tablespoons of coconut oil daily experienced a significant reduction in waist size.

2. Boiled potatoes

Depending on the way you cook them, potatoes can either make you gain or lose weight.  If eaten deeply fried like in the form of French fries and potato chips, they are fattening.  On the other hand, eating boiled potatoes is satiating and allows you to eat less of other foods.

3. Coffee

Coffee has been scientifically shown to increase metabolism by 3-11 percent and boost fat burning by up to 10-29 percent. One study has found that 600 mg of caffeine daily helps burn an additional 79-150 calories daily.

4. Fish and Lean Meats

Fish and lean meats are some of the best sources of protein.  High-protein diet has been shown to increase metabolism by 80-100 calories daily, and one particular study goes as high as 260kcal daily. Another study found that protein at 30 percent of calories helped women eat up to 441 fewer kcal daily and lose a pound of weight weekly.

5. Apple cider vinegar

Taking ACV with a high-carb mean increases fullness so much that it helps people consume 200-275 fewer calories throughout the day.  According to one study, taking a tablespoon or two of vinegar daily led to weight loss of 1.2 – 1.7 kg for 12 weeks.

6. Water

Drinking sufficient amounts of water is extremely beneficial in terms of weight loss.  Drinking half a liter of water can increase metabolism by 30 percent for a period of 1 to 1.5 hours. In addition, drinking half a liter of water before meals has been found to increase fullness and help people lose up to 44 percent more weight.

Meaning Of 13 Colours Of Ghanaian Kente Cloth

Kente, known as nwentom in Akan, is a type of silk and cotton fabric made of interwoven cloth strips and is native to the Akan ethnic group of South Ghana. Kente comes from the word kenten, which means basket in Akan dialect Asante. Akans refer to kente as nwentoma, meaning woven cloth.

It comes in different colours and designs. The brilliant colours and intricate designs associated with Kente have definitely made this fabric the best known of all Ghanaian, and perhaps even all West African textiles. Every design has a story with a proverbial meaning, giving each cloth its own distinction.

Kente cloth is usually worn for ceremonies, festivals, and other sacred occasions. It is also given as a gift for weddings, child naming ceremonies, graduations, and other special events.

The history of Kente weaving extends back more than 400 years. History has it that the very first Kente weavers used raffia, or palm leaf fibers, and wove them into a cloth that looked like a basket.

One story about Kente says that two friends learned to weave by observing a spider weave its web. They wove in imitation of the spider, using raffia fibers to create a strip of fabric. Their leaders were so impressed with this new cloth that it became the royal cloth and was saved for special occasions. There are more than 300 different patters of Kente cloth. Each pattern has a name and its own meaning. The meanings come from past events, religious beliefs, political ideas, and social customs.

Like the patterns, the various colours that usually appear on the kente cloth represent different values and concepts of life. The Kente cloth, is therefore not worn for its beauty alone but also for its representational qualities. They are worn to send out a message.

Below are the meanings of 8 colours of the kente cloth;

Red

Stands for blood and for strong political and spiritual associations, bloodshed, sacrificial rites and death.

Yellow

Just like that of the rising sun, or yolk of an egg, the yellow kente colour is a symbol for things that are holy and precious. It represents fertility, preciousness, wealth, royalty and glory.

Blue

Gray

Represents ash. Ash is used for healing and spiritual cleansing rituals to re-create spiritual balance when spiritual blemish has occurred. It is also used in rituals for protection against malevolent spirits.

I Can’t Speak Twi Fluently – Jackie Appiah

Ghanaian actress, Jackie Appiah has spoken up about her ability to communicate in the local language. Jackie who comes from the Ashanti Region revealed that due to where she was brought up and the kind of job she does, many see her to be someone who has lost touch with her local dialect.

Jackie claims that she does understand every word in the Akan language. She can even quote a number of proverbs to back her claims. However, the only issue is that she is not fluent when it comes to delivery.

I can speak twi, I understand but I’m not able to flow as others do, maybe due to my upbringing. I have a Canadian background so that could be one of the reasons.”

She further stated that she works mainly with people who communicated with her in only English.

Another is that I mingle with people who speak English and that also is not helping me but don’t worry I know my roots.

For all you know, I might produce a twi movie one of these days.

Nana Asaase Sells Ghana In CNN ‘Kente’ Documentary

Ghanaian poet and literary coach Philip Dua Oyinka, best known as Nana Asaase has raised the flag of Ghana high as he has been featured in a documentary on CNN’s ‘Inside Africa.’

The documentary, titled, ‘The Birth Place Of Kente Fashion’, captures the history, art and importance of the ‘kente’ cloth.

In the documentary, Nana Asaase is seen performing a poem themed on ‘kente’ with his deep weave of words that evoke the spirit of Ghanaian oration.

“To me, I see the kente-weaving process to be generic to any art form like poetry, before you set of to write. The master does not just get up and throw anything about in the loom. No. To me, I compare it to a dream state where in his sleep he communes with his muse or his creator, who lends him the secret of what he’s about to do,” he said in the documentary.

Kente is a hand – woven Ghanaian cloth with yarns of different types and colors. It is believed to have developed in the 17th Century A.D. by the Ashanti people but archaeologists also trace its roots in a long tradition of weaving in Africa dating back to about 3000 B.C.

In the olden days, it was the preserve on the royalty, sacred functions and the affluent. It signified wealth and power. In recent times Kente has become a Ghanaian costume and by far one for other people across the world, merely for fashion.

Kente is now used widely across the country on special occasions such as festivities, wedding ceremonies, naming ceremonies among others.

TV and Radio Personality, Berla Mundi has some thoughts on politics.

Berla has rated Ex-President J.A Kuffuor as the best among the recent past presidents; John Mahama, Attah Mills and J.J Rawlings.

Berla Mundi made these statements on Yvonne Okoro’s “Dining With Cooks and Braggarts”.

She said though she was young when NPP ruled Ghana for the first time, she at least remembers Gh1 was equivalent to $1 and the economy was stable but in the past few years it’s been crazy.

Check Out 8 Wedding Gown Styles,Their Names And Ideal Body Types To Match

Women usually find it difficult choosing a wedding dress for their wedding, especially when they do not have any idea about wedding gowns. Wedding gowns do come in different sizes, styles, color and shapes.

A wedding dress or wedding gown is the clothing worn by a bride during a wedding ceremony. Color, style and ceremonial importance of the gown can depend on the religion and culture of the wedding participants.

Choosing a wedding dress silhouette usually depends on the bride, as many are of the believe that the groom must not see his bride in her wedding dress until the wedding day. This they believe is a bad omen and many strictly adhere to it across the globe.

As a woman, you might have already pictured a particular wedding dress somewhere which you intend wearing the same style on your ‘big day’, or you may have seen it somewhere but doesn’t know the name.

Of course, wedding dresses have names as well as their trains, but today, we would like to highlight more on the dresses so as to help you choose your style with ease. The wedding trains and their names would be treated in our subsequent posts.  You don’t have to choose a particular dress style because it looked good on your friend or sister on her wedding. Let’s not forget that, women come in different shapes and sizes. For this reason, experts are of the view that a woman must know her body type and shape in order to choose a befitting wedding dress.

Basically, women are classified into 5 body types which I’ll just quickly highlight on below;

  • Apple (triangle downwards) This body shape describes a person who has broader shoulders and bust than they do hips.
  • Banana, or straight (rectangular)
  • Pear, spoon, or bell (triangle upwards)
  • Hourglass (triangles opposing, facing inwards)

Read on ‘Five Female Body Types for better understanding of women body types.

Below are the various wedding dress styles with pictures for better understanding;

Ballgown

If you want to feel like a fairy tale princess on your wedding day, then the best dress to go for is the ballgown also known as princess gown. Wedding dresses with ball gown silhouettes often feature fitted top and full skirts made with tulle. These types of gowns are said to look good on most body types as the full skirt flatters all shapes and sizes.

Trumpet

The Trumpet Silhouette is a style of gown that features a gradually-flared skirt and a close-fitting bodice that skims the lines of the body, through the hips. Just as the name suggests, the gradual glare of a trumpet dress’ skirt resembles the shape of the musical trumpet’s bell. Ideal for frames with small waists, such as the hourglass, banana, and petites. Not good for pears and apples, as it accentuates stomach and hip area.

A-Line

A line wedding dresses are fitted to the waist and then flow naturally to the floor. The Knot can help you find an a line wedding dress in many different fabrics, including lace, silk, organza, and more. Ideal for all body types.

Modified A-Line

Fitted on the bodice and hips and gradually flares to the hem, forming an “A” shape. The skirt of a modified A-line dress fits closer to the body than a traditional A-line. This type of gown is Ideal for all body types. The cut is between a modified a-line and a mermaid cut.

Sheath

These are designed in such way that the seam runs vertically from the shoulders down to the hips. They are meant to flatter the bride’s body. Sheath dresses that are made from chiffon are especially a darling of many brides who want to accentuate their figure and appear remarkable. Ideal for lean frames, such as petites and bananas. Also good on hourglasses who are willing to show off their curves. Not good for pears; sheaths will accentuate extra inches and can be unflattering.

Mermaid

Also known as a fishtail, a mermaid wedding dress is closely fitted in the bodice all the way down to the knee, where it dramatically flares out – you’ll find that the skirt on gowns described as ‘trumpet’ or ‘fit-and-flare’ starts higher up, typically from either the mid-hip or thigh. Ideal for slender frames and hourglass body types who are willing to show off their curves. Not good for apples and plus size body types.

Tea-Length

Tea length wedding dresses often give brides a vintage style and feature a skirt that falls below the knee and above the ankle. They come in a variety of fabrics and necklines and can be dressed up or down to fit any type of wedding style. they are ideal for all body types.

Mini

Skirt falls above the knee. Ideal for bananas. Not good for plus sizes.

So ladies, I’m sure this article is of enough help to you in choosing your wedding dress. Remember, it’s your ‘special day’ and you must look stunning in that dress. For the guys, you might want to send a signal to your lady with the type of dress you’ll want her to rock in on that day.

Five Female Body Types

Do you know that women come in different body types or shapes? What body shape do I have is a question most of us have been asking ourselves. It is very essential to know your body shape as a woman because, knowing your body type will help you choose dress styles that are befitting enough to compliment your stature. But you must keep in mind that there is no ideal body type, there are at least five. This article will help you find out what body shape you have. The different types we use here are pear, apple, rectangle, inverted triangle and hourglass.

The body type is mainly defined by your skeletal structure, as well as your muscle and fat distribution. Your body type should be defined after puberty however it can still change based on exercise or hormonal level changes.

Note that your body type will stay with you your whole life. No matter how much weight you lose or how much you exercise, you will not attain “the one ideal” (which is usually a body shape you do not have). Whether you wear a size 2 or a size 22, your body type affects what suits you best. Proportions are as important for women with curvy figures.

Instead of wanting to change your body type – emphasize your advantages! Each body type has several beautiful parts you can highlight and please never downplay others if you do not like their body shape.

Of course not every woman falls exactly into one of the categories. You might not be exactly an hourglass, but an hourglass with pear tendencies. Or a pear with a little extra weight around your waist. The point is in choosing the body type that is the closest to your body and then use the information here to find your way to dress with your style.

You can best determine your body type standing in front of a full, wide length mirror.

Stand naked* in front of a full-length mirror (some feet away). It always helps to ask some friends to join you as they might have a second opinion!
*Underwear can disguise your real shape!

You can now observe your overall body shape. Focus on the shape of your torso – shoulders to hips. How do your shoulders compare to your waistline and your hips? Is your weight equally distributed?

  • Shoulders wider than waistline and hip line: Congratulations, you are an inverted triangle!
  • Hips wider than shoulders and waistline: Congratulations, you are a pear!
  • Hips and shoulders same width, waistline a lot smaller: Congratulations, you are an hourglass!
  • Shoulders, waistline and hip line about same size. If you gain weight, you gain it evenly in all areas: Congratulations, you are a rectangle!
  • Shoulders and hip line are about same size. Waistline is same size or wider than shoulders and hips: Congratulations, you are an apple!

Below are the various features of the different body types;

Guys, I’m sure by now you already know the body type of your woman or you’re vigorously trying to figure it out. Just share this with her and the two of you can best choose the exact type.

It can be remembered that for months, Yvonne Nelson has denied ever being pregnant.

The actress, delivered at a health facility in Accra on Sunday.

It has been reported that Yvonne Nelson’s cute baby girl is light-skinned. This seems to indicate that the father of her daughter is also light-skinned; and probably not a Ghanaian.

According to close sources, Yvonne’s baby daddy was right by her side at the hospital to welcome their daughter.

You Can Now Get Rid Of ‘Accidental And Embarrassing’ Messages On Whatsapp

It gets so frustrating when you mistakenly send a ‘sensitive’ message to a wrong person or group on Whatsapp chat and you just wish there was a way to delete it in order for the receiver(s) not to see it. Well, relax because this is now possible with the new Whatsapp feature.

The cross-platform instant messaging service provider has now introduced a new feature that will allow users to delete ‘embarrassing’ messages they accidentally send to individuals or group chats on WhatsApp. The new feature, being rolled out by the Facebook-owned app, would allow the over one billion subscribers to within seven minutes, delete messages sent to people on their chats.

“This is particularly useful if you sent a message to the wrong chat or if the message you sent contains a mistake,” WhatsApp said on its website. Dubbed “Deleting messages for everyone” the new feature currently being enjoyed by some WhatsApp users “allows you to delete specific messages you have sent to either a group or an individual chat.”

“Messages you successfully delete for everyone will be replaced with “This message was deleted” in your recipients’ chats (*). Similarly, if you see “This message was deleted” in a chat, it means that the sender deleted their message for everyone,” it said.

This feature, however, has a time limit before it expires as Whatsapp further explained that, “Once seven minutes have passed, there is no way to delete messages for everyone. Again, WhatsApp says users with old version of the app cannot enjoy the new feature.

It further noted that, “In order for messages to be successfully deleted for everyone, both you and your recipient must be using the latest version of WhatsApp for Android, iPhone or Windows Phone”.

The new feature, however, appears to have a slight limitation as WhatsApp has said, recipients of the accidental messages “may see your message before it’s deleted or if deletion was not successful”, adding that users would not be notified if deleting accidental message “was not successful”.

Updates, are however available for one to enjoy this new feature.

Papa Nii Papafio To Be Ordained As Apostle

Veteran Ghanaian actor, Henry Harding, popularly known in showbiz as Pattington Papa Nii Papafio, is due to be ordained as an Apostle to serve at the Lifted Yoke Chapel in Accra.

Papa Nii as others passionately refer to him, is best remembered for his role in Taxi Driver, a television series aired in the late 90s and early 2000s. He is also known as Oesophagus for his hilarious role in another TV series ‘Oesophagus.’

Papa Nii, speaking to host of Accra FM’s Entertainment Capital Show, Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier) on Saturday revealed that he has been “a man of God for so many years” prior to his elevation to another level in the Ministry.

The programme is scheduled to take place at the Civil Service Auditorium in Accra on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 12:30 pm.

Papa Nii also indicated that it was time for him to be involved in the coaching of young actors and actresses, adding, “we will release a reality show to groom new talents”.

Responding In response to a question about the influx of foreign telenovelas in Ghana, the veteran actor said “there is nothing wrong” in the broadcast of such products because Ghanaian movies also find their way in foreign countries.

He however appealed to legislators and other stakeholders to ensure regulation of the industry to reserve prime time for “made in Ghana products”.

To him, “we are in a global village” and restrictions should not be placed on foreign movies and telenovelas, but a higher percentage of airtime should be for Ghanaian movies.

Papa Nii further added that he does not “ascribe to nudity” in movies, and it should be expunged from productions in Ghana.

Mr. Harding has starred in several other television series, including Dada Boat, The Arthurs, The Adoteys, Adults In Education, Home Sweet Home, Hotel St. James among others.

5 Health Benefits Of Nuts

Nuts are a very popular food. At one point or another, you might have enjoyed nuts; especially if you like ‘gari soakings’. However, if you were like me you were cautioned to never eat nuts because they were not good for you.

With growing up comes knowledge, so here are 5 benefits of eating nuts whether it be groundnut, cashew, almonds and other nuts.

Nuts Help To Lose Weight

Although they’re considered a high-calorie food, research suggests that nuts may actually help you lose weight. Almonds have consistently been shown to promote weight loss rather than weight gain.

What’s more, even though the calorie counts listed for nuts are quite high, studies have shown that your body doesn’t absorb all of them. This is because a portion of fat stays trapped within the nut’s fibrous wall during digestion.

Nuts Can Lower Cholesterol and Triglycerides
Nuts have impressive effects on cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

The cholesterol-lowering power of nuts is believed to be due in part to their high content of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Almonds appear to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels.

Nuts Are High in Fiber
Fiber provides many health benefits. Although your body can’t digest fiber, the bacteria that live in your colon can. Many types of fiber function as prebiotics or “food” for your healthy gut bacteria. Your gut bacteria then ferment the fiber and turn it into beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs).

In addition, fiber helps you feel full and reduces the number of calories you absorb from meals.

Nuts Are Loaded With Antioxidants
Nuts are an antioxidant powerhouse. Antioxidants help control free radicals, which are unstable molecules produced as a normal part of metabolism. Free radical production increases in response to heavy sun exposure, stress, pollution and other causes.

Nuts Are Delicious, Versatile and Widely Available
Nuts are undeniably tasty and satisfying. They can be enjoyed whole, or chopped up and sprinkled on food.

In general, it’s healthiest to eat nuts raw or roast them. At the end of the day, nuts are a highly nutritious and super tasty food that can fit into almost everyone’s diet.
