Gospel Music Not ‘Freelance Singing’ – Francis Agyei To Contemporary Artistes

Ace Christian praise and worship leader, Francis Agyei, says the Gospel music genre

is dying because artistes do not consider it as a Ministry.

According to him, doing gospel music goes far beyond just having a powerful voice.

“Some of them [artistes] think they have the voice but it goes beyond that; it is a ministry and it has the gifting of God,” Francis Agyei told Myjoyonline recently in a conversation.

He continued: “What they are doing is ‘freelance singing’ because they do not

belong and submit to teachings of a church in order to propagate the message properly.”

He is therefore not surprised many of such acts are seeing their career take a nosedive

almost immediately after they rise to stardom.

Whatever you do without the spirit [God] backing it, you will take it lightly,” he added.

Elder Francis Agyei, has over 50 songs in English and several African dialects credited to him.

He however maintains that the spiritual aspect of Gospel music must be taken seriously.

“I don’t joke with spiritual things. I wait on the Lord [before] I give it out. I’m a vessel of God and relying on God makes me unique,” he stated.

The celebrated musician, who took a decade-long break from the music scene, is back working

on his latest album titled ‘”lona,”which features a number the country’s Gospel Greats

including Joe Mettle, Akese Brempong and Uncle Ato.

He is currently promoting his single titled “Yehowa,”which is a remix featuring singer and sound engineer, Nacee.

“I am now back for good, and I am praying God to give us the strength to do a lot more of spirit-filled songs,” he stated.
