Happy Birthday To President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo

Today is President Nana Addo’s birthday.

Nana Akufo-Addo is the son of Edward Akufo-Addo and Madam Adeline Akufo-Addo. Furthermore, he hails from Kyebi in the Eastern Region.

Nana Akufo-Addo’s wife is Rebecca Akufo-Addo (nee Griffiths-Randolph). Moreover, he has five daughters.

Nana Akufo-Addo was raised at Swalaba in Accra (Accra Central) and in the Nima area of Accra.

Educational Background

Nana Akufo-Addo received his primary education at the Government Boys School and went to Orielly Secondary School, and later at the Rowe Road School (now Kinbu), both in Accra Central. He went to England to study for his O Level and A Level examinations at Lancing College, Sussex.

He returned to Ghana in 1962 to teach at the Accra Academy before going to read Economics at the University of Ghana, Legon, in 1964, earning a BSc(Econ) degree in 1967.

Subsequently, he studied law in the UK. The English Bar (Middle Temple) called him to the bar in July 1971.

Political career

In 1995, he led the famous “Kume Preko” demonstrations of the Alliance For Change (AFC).

Nana Akufo-Addo contested as NPP Presidential Candidate in 1998 for the first time and came second to J A. Kufuor.

Nana Akufo-Addo resigned from the Kufuor government in July 2007 to contest for the position of Presidential candidate of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the then ruling party of Ghana, for the 2008 elections.

Finally, in 2016, he campaigned and won the general elections. This makes him the 5th President of the Fourth Republic.
