Ignore The ‘Archaic’ Tradition And Propose To Men – Akumaa Mama Zimbi Advises Ghanaian Women

Radio and television personality, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, known in real life as Dr. Joyce Akumaa Dongotey-Padi has advised Ghanaian women to be bold and propose to men.

In Ghana and most part of the world, men are usually the ones to propose love or marriage to women. In Ghana most especially, even after a man proposes to a woman, she is expected to show initial resistance or ‘woman do’. This will be before she finally says ‘Yes’ matter how much she loves the man.

Hence, A woman who proposes to a man is seen as fast, pushy, cheap, desperate and unworthy of love because she has given ‘scholarship’ to a man.

However, in this era where the number of women is reportedly more than men, Akumaa Mama Zibi believes that it’s no offense for a lady to go in for who she loves.

The passionate sex educationist has tasked young ladies to move away from the norm of waiting on men to propose marriage to them.

Akumaa believes that it is high time young women took the initiative and proposed marriage to men they like. She also added that proposing marriage to a man should not be an issue to women.

According to her, for a lady to propose to a man she loves isn’t primitive as society has made it to look.

“Yes! Women can propose marriage to men as well… It’s very important. There’s absolutely nothing wrong if a woman propose to a man. When my husband met me, he proposed and I told him, I’ve heard but as time goes on, I told him I love you more. When a person tells you ‘I love you’ doesn’t mean he has married you.” She told Bola Ray on the Starr Chat show on Starr FM.

The mother of six also disclosed that generally Ghanaian women are romantic but tradition has shut it.

According to her, the education needed before and during marriage are not given by parents.

Mama Zimbi also stated that sex plays a very essential part in a successful marriage.

She therefore urged women not to shy away from such conversations with their husbands.
