President Nana Akufo-Addo has been honored by the Adanwomase Kente Weavers and Sellers’ Association.

They also gave the name of the colourful hand-woven Kente as ‘Oseadeeyo Akufo-Addo.’

The association later presented the new designed Kente cloth to Nana Addo.

According to the association this is their way of giving due recognition to the President for fulfilling three cardinal campaign promises. Thus; the introduction of the free senior high school policy and the restoration of teacher and nursing trainee allowances. Not forgetting the institutionalization of the Office of the Special Prosecutor to fight corruption.

Kwame Nyame, secretary of the Association said he hopes their gesture would encourage President to fulfill the rest of his campaign promises.

quote from secretary’s speech;

“We honoured your Excellency Nana Addo to continue working hard to fulfil the ‘One District, One Factory’ and ‘One Village, One Dam’ political campaign promises made to help create millions of meaningful jobs, especially for the youth in this country,” he said.

Mr Kwame Nyame further described Nana Addo as a visionary leader who would help in the speedy development of the country.

Leadership of the association appealed to the president and his government to consider the option of setting up a Kente-weaving factory at Adanwomase to help create jobs for the youth.

President Akufo-Addo, who could not hide his joy, expressed gratitude for the honour done him.

In his response, he stressed the importance of the Kente industry to the socio-economic development of the country. He gave an assurance that his administration would give the Kente industry all the attention it deserved.

This, he said, had been the biggest motivation for his government.

Kente is a type of silk and cotton fabric made of interwoven strips. It is native to the Akan ethnic group of Southern Ghana. Kente has become globally known and is used widely on occasions across the globe.
