Women Should Be Able To Dress Without Fear Of Rape – Joselyn Dumas

Ghanaian actress, Joselyn Dumas has some words for the people who victim-blame rape survivors. She has come against the tendency to blame women’s dressing as the cause of rape and s*xual harassment.

Joselyn opposed that way of thinking. She labeled it as ‘crap’ and said women should have the ability to dress without fear of rape or harassment.

Joselyn spoke about this on the latest episode of ‘Keeping it Real with Joselyn Dumas’, which aired over the weekend.

She had the conversation with Miss Ghana 2010, Stephanie Karikari and Yaa Boadi Okudzeto. The topic for discussion was around the difficulties women face in the corporate world.

Also, they spoke about how to navigate the constant attention from men who want something in return for striking a deal with you.

Joselyn pushed back against the widespread perception that the way a woman dresses has something to do with a man deciding to pursue her sexually.

Her Comments

“I read somewhere that women attract some of these men and these rape issues because of the way they dress. I think that’s crap.”

“If men are moved by what they see so I can’t wear certain clothes?”

The actress also reiterated that blaming the victim who suffered a crime is wrong and should not be encouraged.

Moreover, the panel tried to decipher why some married tried to initiate sexual encounters with women who came to see them for a business deal. Stephanie Karikari said it’s because most men are wired to cheat.

Men are dogs,” the former Miss Ghana winner said without mincing words.

However, both Dumas and Boadi were quick to say ‘some men’. She added: “A lot of them, I would say three quarters, especially where we are in West Africa, Ghana.

“How many men don’t cheat?” she asked rhetorically.
