Paapa Yankson Laid To Rest

Highlife icon, Paapa Yankson was laid to rest over the weekend. His funeral took place at the State House in Accra.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo was in attendance for the icon’s funeral.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Madam Catherine Afeku was in attendance and also read a tribute about Paapa Yankson.

73- year old Paapa Yankson was ill for some time when he died in his sleep in July this year. Earlier in the year, he was honoured at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards.

The bereaved family of late Paapa Yankson thanked the President and the Creative Arts Minister for fulfilling their promises as they paid their last respect.

The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana, Obour, together with the executives paid their tribute to him.

His popular songs included; Wiase Mu Nsem, Show Your Love, Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame, and Tena Menkyen.

A lot of other celebrities were on hand for his homegoing service. They included Nana Ampadu, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, KSM, Obour and many others.

Paapa Yankson was truly a legend who will be missed. However, his contributions to the music industry will never be forgotten.

Biography

Benjamin Paapa Kofi Yankson was born on June 22, 1944, at Winneba and for over 40 years, he’s kept highlife alive with the release of 15 albums that spurned a deluge of hit songs including ‘Wiase Mu Nsem,” Show Your Love,’ ‘Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame,’ and ‘Tena Menkyen’ among others.

He was also instrumental in the projection of music bands into critical national acclaim; the Western Diamond Band, The Gold Nuggets Band, and the Carousel Seven Band.

He has lectured and performed in many countries around the world including the US, Canada, Belgium, Britain, Germany, Holland, Nigeria, Benin and the Ivory Coast.

Paapa Yankson To Be Buried 21st October

The legendary highlife artiste, Benjamin Akono Kofi Yankson popularly known as Paapa Yankson will be given a state burial scheduled by both family and government on Saturday, October 21, 2017. This was revealed by theMinister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku.

The late Paapa Yankson passed away on July 21, 2017. His last performance was at the “Bottles and Bands” staged in November last year.

Paapa Yankson had to his credit 15 albums which included songs like “Show Your Love”, “Okukuseku” and “Tena Me Nky3n”.

At the press conference to officially inform the public about the funeral arrangements; Catherine Afeku, mentioned that the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is an ardent lover of music and per the immeasurable contribution of Paapa Yankson, the president has directed that he receive a state burial.

The burial service will take place at the forecourt of the State House, Accra, on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 6:00 a.m. -5: 00 pm.
