Five(5) Harmattan Tips For Healthy And Beautiful Skin

Like it or not, the harmattan is here again and it’s getting stronger and stronger each day.

Just in case you’re not familiar with west African climate, harmattan is the period of the year (usually between end of November to middle of March). This season is characterized by cold, dry and dust-laden wind with wide fluctuations in the ambient temperatures of day and night.

It’s one of the most difficult seasons for many people as it doesn’t do much good for our skin and hair.

The weather is dry and dusty during this time, and it literally sucks the moisture out of skin and hair which can lead to things like chapped lips, dry and dull skin, cracked soles, catarrh, and sneezing.

But need to constantly look radiant and stunning no matter the season especially for ladies.

It’s therefore extremely important to take some extra beauty measures to help combat the harsh effects of the weather.

In light of that, we bring you some tips to help you keep looking beautiful and remain healthy throughout  the season.

1.Drink as much water as possible

We all know this is the time where our bodies get dehydrated the most. Do not wait to feel thirsty before you drink water. Drink more water to stay hydrated and avoid skin cracking and wrinkles.

2.Wash Your Hair Less

Reduce washing of hair to once or twice a week as washing strips hair of its natural oils and leaves it dry and brittle. Preferably use a hydrating shampoo and moisturizing conditioner.

3. Take a lot of Vitamin C

Of course, this is when we experience lots of sneezing and coughs. Ensure you take lots of foods and fruits rich in vitamin C. This helps to keep the skin fresh and prevent sneezing and catarrh.

4. Moisturize after cleansing

This is especially to the ladies. It is important to do away with your alcohol or astringent-containing facial cleansers and toners away now. Instead, make use of mild cleansers with a neutral pH of 5.5. Don’t forget to always moisturize after cleansing and don’t dry yourself completely after bathing, leave some water on.

It’s advisable to use mild moisturizing soaps or body bath creams in order to preserve your body oil. You can also add a few drops of oil to your bathing water.

5. Stick more to lip balm or lip gloss

To prevent chapped lips, invest in good lip balms or lip gloss. Use them as often as possible.

You might want to do away with too much lipsticks for now as some may cause more chapped lips.
