I’ve Been Off The Screens Due To Sub-Standard Movie Producers – Mr. Beautiful

Prolific actor in the Kumawood movie industry, Clement Bonney popularly known as Mr.

Beautiful, has explained why he has been missing from the screens for some time now.

According to him, his absence from the movie industry is as a result of the many unprofessional

people plying their trade in it.

“The situation at the moment is that the industry is bad, when you have an industry where tomato sellers are becoming producers, that is what happens,” he said.

He added that he likes to be associated with good creative content and wouldn’t stoop for

anything of a lower standard.

“In as much as I love to act, I don’t settle for mediocrity and always like to associate myself with good quality productions.

The movie ‘Ama Ghana’ for instance became a hit because of Kohwe and myself, we brought our A-Game to bear on the production and that is what I mean by good creativity.

“I have great talent and that is why I don’t settle for mediocrity, I receive a lot of scripts but I don’t honour them because sometimes the directors don’t appeal to me, there are other times too that they give you scenes to act without dialogue, I can’t act that way so I reject them,” Mr. Beautiful noted.

Speaking further, Mr. Beautiful, who was speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz

noted that the industry started going down during President Kufuor’s regime.

“That was the time we were doing Keysoap Concert Party. During that era, the late Eva Lokko of GBC increased the rate for airtime so we lost the sponsorship from Key Soap. Myself, Agya Koo, Akrobeto, Mercy Asiedu and others are all concert party products so when we got into film acting, it was very easy for us,” he stated.

Mr. Beautiful is popular for movies such as ‘Ama Ghana,’ Made in London,’ among others.

Mr. Beautiful Reveals Why He Left Kumawood

Actor Clement Bonney aka Mr. Beautiful has finally opened up on why he no longer features in Kumawood movies.

Mr. Beautiful is a staunch member of the opposition NDC party.

It can be recalled that he was one of the actors who openly declared his membership and support for the party in the 2016 election.

Unfortunately for them and especially  for Mr.Beautiful, the party lost power to it’s rival party, NPP.

Without any other option, Mr.Beautiful came back to declare his intention toreturn to the industry that made him popular.

Interestingly, the actor had been boycotted by the movie producers because of his open campaign for the ex-President, especially in the stronghold of the then opposition – Ashanti Region; where Kumawood reigned.

Mr. Beautiful’s Speech

Speaking on the Delay Show with Deloris Frimpong Manso, he explained his reason for opting out of the industry.

According to him, ‘the Kumawood producers wanted me to speak Asante Twi and I said no. I will stick to speaking Fante.’

Adding to the matter, Mr beautiful indicated that ‘the producer in-charge of writing subtitles for Kumawood movies also confirmed he couldn’t understand the Fante language’ reason he backed out of the industry.

Mr Beautiful, further said he believes Kumawood is dead and the producers are to be held responsible.

“Where are the local movies now? The cameramen can advise producers and they won’t listen. The excitement in the movie industry is dead. Some of them are just tomato sellers and they migrated into the movie industry…” he said.

Nevertheless, he revealed that he doesn’t intend to retire from acting now.

Reason being that, his happiness is the camera. Aside that he has acquired some wisdom and doesn’t intend to continue as just an actor.

“I have lots of scripts and want to do lots of things before I come out. I have not retired from shooting movies! How can I retire?” he queried.
