Sonko sets the record straight about his future as Nairobi governor after resignation letter surfaces

Mike Sonko was forced to come out to set the record straight about his position as Nairobi governor after a copy of his resignation letter surfaced online.

The governor announces his resignation in the letter dated July 23rd 2018 and which was addressed to the speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly.

In the letter, Sonko cites various reasons that have forced him step down including being constantly frustrated by the national government of president Uhuru Kenyatta.

“The national government has continually frustrated all my efforts to transform the city which includes; refusal to pay the county debts of over Sh80billion. Refusal by the Controller of Budget to approve Sh5billion in the 2017/2018 financial year. Refusal by the Inspector General to provide me even with 1 police body guard,”  the letter reads in part.

This nonsense must stop

Sonko quickly dismissed the letter in a post on social media. The governor asked his detractors to desists from malicious nonsense.

“Whoever is circulating this malicious nonsense should desist with immediate effect. I’m the elected Governor of Nairobi until the end of my term. Buree kabisaa,” wrote Sonko.

Alambe Lolo ama Ameze mate wakikula nyama! Sonko trolled for spoiling Obama’s photo

Kenyans are not yet sure which phrase they’ll use to explain Governor Mike Sonko recent actions after he ended up in a photo he wasn’t meant to be in.

Kenyans wondered whether they should use “alambe Lolo” or “ameze mate wakikula nyama” while explaining how Sonko was sidelined when President Uhuru Kenyatta, DP William Ruto, Auma Obama and Barack Obama posed for a photo at statehouse.

Here’s how Kenyans reacted:

“I can speak without fear that Poor Kenyans are in the corner, but what I know when you force even a cat or anything harmless to the edge it come back to you with a force, if government will not find a solution at this time crime rate might be high. Thugs and hit squads will be all over,” wrote Pastor Godfrey Migwi in part.

World cup

The man of God also called out MPs who traveled to Russia to watch World Cup at the expense of Kenyan taxpayers. The preacher reminds lawmakers that it’s God who put them in position of leadership and it’s the same God who can remove them if people are crying about them.

“To our mp’s you are not leading us in the right path, you cannot leave Kenyans in pain when their kiosks, vibada’s, and shop’s are being demolished to go and enjoy yourselves in Russia by taxpayer’s money. To those who knows that prayers changes thing’s we need to continue praying for our leaders….
Dan 2 : 21And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
If we pray hard some May be removed and God have many way’s to settle his peoples.”

Woman nearly dies while grappling for handouts from governor Mike Sonko’s (Photos)

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko caused a scuffle when he dished out crisp bank notes through the window as his driver before his motorcade sped off.

Sonko had just attended Accelerated National Immunization Campaign that was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) Warehouse in Embakasi.

The philanthropic governor started dishing out money through the window of his car to a crowd that had gathered outside the Kemsa warehouse.

Escape death by a whisker

A woman was nearly killed while grappling for handouts from the Nairobi governor. The woman was almost ran over by Sonko’s motorcade while chasing after Sonko’s car to grab some cash.

Sonko’s adopted son Satrine Osinya surprised with a new Mercedes Convertible for his 6th birthday

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko decided to gift his adopted son Satrine Osinya with a brand new Mercedes E 350 CDI Convertible on his birthday.

The expensive gift comes barely a month after Osinya’s health scare. The kid was admitted to Nairobi hospital about three weeks ago after developing complications following an earlier surgery on his brain in 2014.

Satrin was shot in the head in March 2014 during a terror attack in Mombasa, he was only 8-months-old. The bullet that killed his mother lodged in his brain.

6th Birthday

Sonko perhaps decided to gift his son the expensive German machine to celebrate his recovery. The Nairobi governor spent at least Kes 5 million to buy the Mercedes Benz E 350 CDI Convertible.

Sonko’s wife: Since Friday sijaona my husband, am living all alone with the children in Nairobi

Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has ‘relocated’ to his home in Mua hills, Machakos County claiming his life is in danger in Nairobi.

The government reduced Sonko’s bodyguards from 15 to just 4, the move sparked allegations that the governor was unfairly being punished.

On Tuesday, photos emerged showing Sonko chairing a cabinet meeting from his Mua hills home – some 60 kilometers from Nairobi.

“Since Friday, sijaona my husband, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. He has not been around in his Nairobi home because of the security, he fears for his life. Security has been withdrawn, both for night and day. All have been taken away including his bodyguards. We are living in fear; especially the children who are not used to this kind of life. Like now we are sleeping alone, we don’t know what will happen. We only have hopes in our God,” Primrose Mbuvi narrated.

Uhuru’s lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi: Send Sonko back to prison to serve the remainder of his term

Ahmednasir Abdullahi has revived calls to have Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko sent back to prison to serve the remainder of his term.

The Nairobi governor was briefly jailed at the Shimo la Tewa prison over a controversial land deal, he was still a young man at the time.

Sonko reportedly escaped from Shimo la Tewa where was supposed to be incarcerated for six months. He denies escaping but the issue still haunts him to date, Miguna Miguna highlighted the issue during Nairobi gubernatorial debates.

Back to prison

City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi is asking Sonko to go back to prison to serve the remainder of his term. Ahmednasir was commenting on a Standard newspaper article where Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe called for Sonko’s impeachment.

Former CJ Willy Mutunga lights up the internet as he lectures Mike Sonko in mother tongue about garbage menace

Nairobi is literally rotting – garbage, sewer, potholes in the CBD. No wonder recent TIFA poll ranked Sonko as the poorest performing governor.

The survey rates Sonko’s poor performance in environmental cleanliness as well as maintenance of roads and drainage systems.

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga decided to use mother tongue to hammer home the message to Nairobi governor who comes from the same ethnic community as him.

What were you doing in Dubai?

Mutunga questioned why Sonko went on a benchmarking trip to Dubai on waste management yet the garbage menace was in Nairobi.

The former CJ was replying to a tweet by Citizen TV in which the Nairobi governor discussed his trip to United Arab Emirates (U.A.E).

“We Mbuvi ni wisi takataka yiiva Ilovi withi Dubai kwika ata mwa?” he tweeted. (You Mbuvi, You know garbage is here in Nairobi, what were you going to do in Dubai?)

Mutunga’s tweet sent Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) into a frenzy, most people couldn’t agree more with the former Chief Justice.

Sonko: I don’t hate Kikuyus. All my Mpango wa kandos are Kikuyu

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has come out to state that he doesn’t hate any tribe, especially Kikuyu unlike what some have been speculating.

The governor was responding to rumors that he has sidelined the tribe in his government and frustrating those who are holding powerful offices in the county.

What surprised many though is how Sonko said that it when defending his office. In a rather unexpected turn, the governor, who is married, claimed that he has Mpango wa Kando who are all Kikuyu.

“People say Sonko hates Kikuyu, it’s untrue. I have nominated over 10 Kikuyu MCAS, my wife is a Kikuyu, all my side dishes and in laws are Kikuyu. Even the incoming deputy governor is a Kikuyu,” Sonko said.

Laikipia’s Ndiritu Muriithi ranked second best performing governor as Mike Sonko takes bottom position

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has the lowest rating only beating Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi – a survey conducted ahead of the 5th Annual Devolution Conference indicates.

Kenya’s 47 governors are meeting in Kakamega for the devolution summit from Monday 23rd to Thursday 26th April. A survey conducted by Pottpoll indicates how the governors are rated by Kenyans.

The survey was conducted between April 16th -19th and it involved 18,800 respondents of age 18 years and above across the 47 counties.

Top performers

Kitui governor Charity Ngilu, Laikipia’s Ndiritu Muriithi, Makueni’s Kivutha Kibwana, Turkana’s Josphat Nanok and Kisumu’s Anyang’ Nyong’o have the highest approval ratings having being ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

Wajir governor Mohamed Abdi, Nairobi’s Mike Sonko, Tana River’s Dhadho Godhana, Kilifi’s Amason Kingi and Trans Nzoia’s Patrick Khaemba take up the bottom five positions.

Governor Ndiritu Muriithi’s impressive performance has been attributed to his achievements which includes the launch of destination Laikipia to market his county and gravelling of 150 kilometers of road. Laikipia county also leads in new NHIF registrations at 20,000 people.

Laikipia governor Ndiritu Muriithi

A survey conducted by Polls Kenya in December 2017 had almost the same results with the recent survey. Polls Kenya’s survey also ranked Nairobi’s Mike Sonko among worst performing governors.

Nation blunders again! Mike Sonko reads riot act to Daily Nation Newspaper

Mike Sonko has been rattled with an article written on Sunday Nation. The articles purports that the Nairobi governor drinks like a fish even at his office.

The article titled ‘The Madhouse that is Sonko’s City Hall Office’ reveals how the governor starts drinking as early as 10 am at his City Hall office.

Sonko has however dismissed the article terming it as utter defamation. The governor reveals that he has instructed his lawyers to sue Daily Nation.

“A story in today’s Sunday Nation titled ‘The Madhouse that is Sonko’s City Hall Office’ has been widely circulated both in print and electronic form. It has achieved its purpose, which was to portray the Nairobi City County Government under my leadership as dysfunctional, and depict me as a failed Governor.
This is the most unfortunate example of irresponsible journalism where great effort is made to malign the character of an individual and expose him to public ridicule without giving him a chance to defend himself or even investigating to verify allegations before publishing them.

“The tenets of journalism include objectivity, balance and fairness. This story lacked in all these, and the half-hearted sentence at the end of the story that I did not respond to several calls and messages is meant to hide the fact that I was never meant to be heard before my character was attacked in the manner the Sunday Nation has done. I have instructed my lawyers to seek legal redress,” wrote Sonko in part.

Senior government official

Sonko says  Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho is working in cahoot with Nation journalists to taint his reputation.

“Why should a story in a leading national newspaper focus on trivial things like the eggs and sausages I eat for breakfast and ignore life changing, transformational issues? You be the judge.
This is all being orchestrated by a group of people engaged in high level succession politics that I have talked about in the past, whose implementing lead person is Internal Security PS Karanja Kibicho. They have been celebrating the ‘success’ of the hatchet job together with their contact Editor at the Sunday Nation, but I will not be distracted from delivering services to the residents of Nairobi. They can spend as much money as they want to malign my name, but in the end the truth will prevail. I know that a lie can travel half way around the world before truth puts on its shoes but the truth always catches up. And we all know for sure that the moral arc of the universe is long but it bends towards justice. I will continue working for Nairobians and let my work speak for me.”

Government finally strips Mike Sonko of his grandeur

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko received a call from above that made him relinquish a special privilege only accorded to high ranking government officials.

The government ordered Sonko to stop flying the national flag on his official vehicle. Sonko was the only governor in the 47 counties who illegally flew the national flag on his official vehicle.

Privilege not earned

The president and his deputy, the chief justice, cabinet secretaries, speakers of the national assembly and senate as well as Kenyan diplomats while in foreign missions are the only persons allowed to fly the national flags on their vehicles.

Sonko received a call from Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho who ordered him to stop flying the national flag on his vehicles. Governors are however allowed to fly their county flags.

“Mambo ya flag hizo nimekubali kutoa as adviced by Karanja Kibicho na Ndegwa,” wrote Sonko on Facebook.

The barber shop that was robbed is located shop next to Hodi Hodi bar in Maringo shopping center near Jogoo road police station.

Enticing bounty

Mike Sonko wants to see the gang that carried out the robbery arrested. The Nairobi governor is offering Kes 300,000 cash reward for information about the gangsters.

Mike Sonko finally responds to the cry of #stopharrasing DJ’s in Kenya!

Kenyan DJ’s this past weekend faced a tough time as they were roughed up while performing at their specific clubs! This forced Kenyans to come up with the #stopharrasingDJ’s that attracted a lot of attention on social media.

A few days later, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has responded to the hashtag due to the pressure he was getting. In his Facebook post Mike Sonko expressed his gratitude to all those who felt the need of bringing the matter to his attention however he had more to say.

DJ’s are responsible for the noise

According to Mike Sonko, the reason why the DJ’s were getting arrested is because they are responsible for the noise polution.

Since most of these clubs are located near neighborhoods, many working Kenyans have been complaining of noise. This makes it hard for most to sleep in peace and for this reason his ministry had to act on time. He wrote saying;

From the comments some of his followers agreed to the post while others felt that he should have dealt with the club owners and not the DJ’s who are simply following instructions from above.

“We won’t stop arresting you” Mike Sonko responds to DJs complaining about harassment

City DJs are protesting against police arrests. The likes of DJ Crème dela Crème and Kriss Darling have been very vocal about the arrests of their colleagues.

Police have been raiding parties and arresting DJs. Several DJs were arrested last Saturday night in a police swoop which sparked uproar and the start of hashtag #StopArrestingDJs.

Refrain or face the law

Mike Sonko however has no remorse for getting DJs arrested. The Nairobi governor warns that any form of noise pollution from clubs within residential areas would not be tolerated.

Sonko says DJs playing loud music in residential areas will be arrested.  He states that the rights of other people who want peaceful sleep will not be violated by DJs.

“The issue of arrest and harassment of DJs has come to my attention. I appreciate youths trying to make a living. However, DJs especially in the residential areas, should not violate the rights of Nairobians to a good working and living environment. Watoto wa shule and hard working Nairobians should be allowed to have a peaceful night so as to have productive days. In many cases bar owners and managers are never in the scene during operations thats why at some point our DJs are held responsible coz they’re the operators of the music machines. Also note that, we receive complains from residents before we act. Kwa hivyo tunaomba Djs waangalie hio,” wrote Mike Sonko.

Well done! Sonko’s askaris conduct night raid to flush out street children from the CBD (Photos)

Mike Sonko has finally reined in street children in Nairobi CBD. Hawkers and street families had became a menace in the capital sparking public uproar.

Increased incidences of mugging in Nairobi CBD was blamed on hawkers and street children. Governor Sonko promised to restore the glory of Nairobi CBD by dealing with the problem directly.

City county’s askaris on Tuesday night conducted a swoop to get street children off the city. Sonko’s Rapid Response Team bundled several street kids in vehicles and drove them to rehab centers.

Rehab program

Sonko says his government has rolled out a program to rehabilitate the street children. The governor reveals that the kids will be enrolled in schools.

“The rescued street children will receive treatment of their addiction in our rehabilitation centers as well as get life skills including enrolling them back in school,” said Sonko in a statement.

Mike Sonko’s nightmare continues as petitioners move to court of appeal

Three weeks ago Mike Sonko was celebrating after high court dismissed petition challenging his win. The petitioners have since moved to court of appeal.

Japheth Muroko and Zacchaeus Okoth withdrew the petition against Sonko as a result of the state failing to provide security. They claimed that they received threats through texts, being followed by strangers, their families etc.

Their submissions to court to have them guaranteed state security only went as far as the judge ordering for their security within the court precincts.

They were told anything outside the court is within police jurisdiction. The two petitioners reported severally to Milimani police station, got an OB number but no security was ever given. Muroko and Okoth have since moved to court of appeal to reinstate the petition.

The two claim that Justice Msagha Mbogholi erred in law and in fact in striking out the petition. The petitioners argue the judge should have followed the procedure and allowed them to withdraw, but leave the matter pending in case someone else wants to pick it up.

The petitioners also wondered why a case which has not gone through full hearing is equated in terms of costs to a case which has been fully heard.

Justice Mbogholi ordered them to pay Sonko and the IEBC Kes 5 million as costs for the suit when he dismissed the petition on January 9th 2018.

Petitioners visit Raila

Mathare MP Hon. Anthony Oluoch and his legal team paid a courtesy call to Raila Odinga and handed over copies of the appeal filed to challenge the decision by Justice Mshaga Mbogoli to dismiss Japheth Muroko and Zacchaeus Okoth’s petition against Sonko.

Mike Sonko: Who said i will seek re-election in 2022?

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko will be a one-term governor just like his predecessor Evans Kidero. Sonko recently revealed his plan which will see his legacy last to eternity.

Mike Sonko made it clear he won’t be running for a second term in office come 2022. The governor revealed this when he was asked whether he stood a chance of winning re-election in an interview with Standard.

“I want to leave a legacy because I will not be running for a second term. I have never run for the same office twice in my political life, so why should this be the first time? I will deliver and leave an efficient office for Nairobians then move on to the next assignment for Kenyans,” Mike Sonko said.

Nairobi worst performing county

Sonko also addressed recent report that showed Nairobi was among worst performing counties in Kenya. The governor says he inherited an office crippled by corruption, he asks Nairobians to be patient with him.

“You cannot rate a cosmopolitan county like Nairobi with a provincial county within 100 days. We don’t even receive the same sharable revenue within those days.

“There are so much we have achieved since taking office, including increasing and streamlining revenue collection, curbing corruption and now we are closing in on the city cartels that I inherited from my predecessor who have messed this city.

“Furthermore, we have also managed to pay off a bank overdraft of close to Sh1 billion accrued from the previous administration and are able to pay our staff salaries directly, which has seen the end of the constant downing of tools by county staff. Very soon, Nairobians will see the effects of these milestones,” said Sonko.

Sonko with his PR ranked among worst performing governors in Kenya

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko is performing impressively well on social media but not so many people are feeling his impact on the ground.

Interestingly governors who don’t engage in PR activities are performing better. A survey by Polls Kenya shows Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana, Kirinyaga’s Anne Waiguru and Kisumu’s Anyang’ Nyong’o respectively have the highest approval ratings.

The poll was conducted to assess governors’ performance in the first 100 days in office. Nairobi and Mombasa counties lead with bottom performing governors.

Underperforming governors

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko came only second to Homa Bay’s Cyprian Awiti who has the highest disapproval rating. Sonko together with his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho lead in PR on social media.

Joho was ranked third among governors with highest disapproval rating.  Other counties that underperforming governors include Kiambu, Isiolo, Garissa and Siaya.

“Shoga wangu kuja tusaidiane lete matako yako” Sonko causes a stir as he replies to a critic using vulgar words

Mike Sonko is known for using very offensive words especially in political rallies. The Nairobi governor used unrefined words to hit back at a critic who rubbed him the wrong way.

Sonko keeps on getting in trouble over stupid mistakes. The governor was recently condemned when he exposed private messages on social media that he had with his deputy Polycarp Igathe.

Sonko decided to share the screenshots of the conversation after a local daily alleged that his relationship with his deputy was frosty.

Critic is shut down

The Nairobi governor was at it again when he used vulgar words to shut down a critic on social media. The detractor had asked Sonko to stop social media show off and focus on his work as Nairobi governor.

“You are “too available” in social media. You are the Governor. Kalia kiti na matako mbili na ufanye kazi. Kiherehere ya social media achia akina Nyakundis and Alais,” a certain John Messa commented on Sonko’s post.

“Noted Boss. But i believe in teamwork SHOGA wangu kuja tusaidiane lete matako yako moja nyeusi na mimi nilete yangu. Wewe ukalie kiti na tako moja jeusi nami nikalie na langu normal nakazi iendele. Hahaha xmass joke of the year,” Mike Sonko replied to John Messa.

Babu Owino vows to take action as Nasa supporters blame Sonko for dumping human feces at Jacaranda grounds to stop Nasa rally

Apparently 13 lorries dumped human feces at Jacaranda grounds in Embakasi early Tuesday morning before the planned Nasa rally.

Nasa supporters claim Sonko sent Nairobi city county trucks with the human waste. Nasarites say the move was meant to scare them from attending a planned rally at Jacaranda.

Babu Owino has vowed to take action if Sonko doesn’t collect the human feces he allegedly dumped at Jacaranda ground.

police keep guard at Jacaranda grounds

The Embakasi East MP affirms that city county’s lorries dumped the feces at his constituency. Babu threatens to re-dump the human waste at City Hall if Sonko doesn’t remove it.

“I don’t have water! Sonko snubs William Kabogo after he alerts him about dry taps at his home

Apparently the rich are also affected by water shortage in Nairobi. Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has been without water at his home for three months.

Water crisis in the city is widely thought to affect poor neighborhoods alone. Kabogo highlighted the situation in Windsor area in a tweet on Sunday November 19th.

Get water at our area

The former Kiambu governor says water has not been flowing into his house for the last three months. He was replying to Mike Sonko’s tweet in which the Nairobi governor was assuring city residents of smooth service delivery.

Kabogo protests about water shortage saying that they are also paying tax like any other Kenyan. He reminds Sonko that he stays in Windsor just in case he has forgotten.

“Ndugu. Get us water to our area. We also pay taxes. We’ve not had water for 3 months. Windsor in case you e forgotten,” William Kabogo tweeted.

Sonko however doesn’t reply to Kabogo’s tweet. Guess the former Kiambu governor is no longer a big fish.

I met Linda at Club 40 in Westlands where she is an employee. While in the company of some MPs and other leaders, Linda came to me crying that I was the only one who could help her. She shared with me her problems on how to raise funds to take her baby to India for eye surgery. I was touched and volunteered to support her.

However, yesterday on 15th Kayla’s parents met up with Mike Sonko who carted for their daughter’s surgery scheduled to take place soon.

Today she paid me a visit at my office and I undertook to cater for baby kyla medical bills for the operation in India. According to Dr. Fayaz A Khan, Chief Ophthalmologist at Lions Sightfirst Eye Hospital, Baby Kyla was born at full term through caesarean section.

According to the Doctor, on examination, both eyes were noted to be white and there was no demarcation line between the sclera and the anterior segment. Baby Kyla is now set for cornea transplant in India courtesy of Sonko Rescue Team. I appeal to all well wishers to support Baby Kyla through

5 alarming photos that make governor Sonko look worse than Kidero

Mike Sonko was elected because Nairobians were tired of runaway corruption and slow infrastructural development in Kidero’s administration.

The problems city dwellers were grumbling about in Kidero’s administration are still bedeviling Nairobians to date. Heavy rain that is pounding the capital continue to wreak havoc in Nairobi.

Scenes of flooded roads, stagnant water, clogged drainage system, potholes in the city have raised concern. People are wondering when Sonko’s administration will act.

Nairobians taunt Sonko

A city resident decided to go fishing in the streets of Nairobi in a bid to expose pothole menace in the CBD. Patrick Ngugi (@ThePatrickNgugi) shared photos of himself fishing on Biashara Street and Moi Avenue where there were potholes and stagnant water.

“Good Morning from the city of Potholes and clogged drainage system. @UsafiriApp @KenyanTraffic,” Patrick Ngugi tweeted.
