Just days after he revealed that he had been released from his contract by Kiss 100 would seem comedian Oga Obinna is winning once again as he has announced he will be joining tomorrow’s morning crew on NRG Radio.
The radio station seems to have decided to go balls the walls current strategy as they are splashed out millions and hired some top Talent in a bid to corner an already crowded market. This is a coup against competitors such as Radio Africa which had previously traded them and poached their best talents.
It should also interest maybe that Oga Obinna had said he would only be willing to get back on the radio if he were offered 700,000 Kenya shillings as a salary. One has to wonder how big the cheque that was cut really is.
You may not know this but controversial blogger Arthur Mandela, better known as Xtian Dela, no longer works at Kiss FM or any of the Radio Africa Group affiliates.
Dela, who was at one time a presenter at NRG Radio, joined Kiss FM sometime in June 2019 alongside Kamene Goro and Andrew Kibe.
His role was to produce the station’s breakfast show whose ratings had really taken a beating after Shaffie Weru and Adelle Onyango left.
Understandably, it’s Kamene and Kibe who vouched for him to produce the show because they had worked with him at NRG Radio where he would occasionally join them to discuss various topics on their breakfast show.
Although Xtian had a short stint on radio, he had never really worked as a producer and as you may know, this is a different ball game because you have to conceptualize a 4-hour show from Monday to Friday.
Kiss FM is not just any station. It is one of the leading urban stations in Kenya with a good listenership and that means there is no time for trial and error and learning on the job, you have to hit the ground running.
So here comes Xtian who has no background whatsoever in producing a radio show and he is given this big role and he does not know how to go about it. What happens next? Your guess is as good as mine.
The Group Programs Controller at Radio Africa is an Australian national by the name Pete Sinclair and people who know him claim that he does not tolerate nonsense and mediocrity.
Sooner or later, he began to notice that Xtian Dela didn’t have a clue on how to conceptualize topics for Kamene and Kibe and the ratings were really declining so he took up the job of producing the breakfast show himself.
Although Xtian kept working at the station, even without having a specific role, they had to let go of him earlier this year because they saw no point of paying him a salary of about Ksh. 250,000 for doing nothing.
A new study conducted by research company Trends & Insights For Africa(TIFA) shows that there may be a monumental shift happening in the Kenyan radio industry. TIFA polled their users to discover two shocking statistics:
The Welle Welle hitmaker was at the peak of his music career when he landed a radio gig in March last year. He had been handpicked to host a drive show on NRG Radio alongside Mwalimu Rachael. Perhaps he took up the job because he was getting a fat pay cheque, who knows?
Coincidentally, Timmy also broke ranks with Kaka Empire, the stable that he had been signed to for 5 years (or so), around the same time.
As fate would have it, his music career started suffering almost immediately. Although he kept releasing new songs, they were just flat. Okay, I’ll just say it as it is, the songs were boring. His punchlines were weak and not as witty as was the case in his older songs.
People who had come to admire him for his lyrical prowess, including yours truly, thought that was the end for him. He lost so many fans and it seemed like his career was over. He had hit a dead end!
Toward the end of last year, peharps after noticing that his music career had taken a nosedive, Timmy decided to call it quits at NRG Radio. His explanation was that he had to focus on his music. That’s it.
He got into studio and at the beginning of the year, he released a new song dubbed Atekwe alongside Redsan. Although the song didn’t do well, it was clear Timmy was keen on winning back his fans.
He went quiet for two months, perhaps to restrategize, and reappeared in April with a new song dubbed Kipopo that he had done alongside Tanzania’s Rosa Ree. Three weeks later, Rosa Ree dropped the remix of her hit Asante Baba featuring Timmy.
Both songs have been getting massive airplay on local radio stations. If you listen to either of them, you’ll admit that Timmy has gotten his mojo back. This is the Timmy that we all came to love and admire.
I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us. I also hope that he’s not thinking of going back to radio. Clearly, that was a big mistake.
Presenter Huddah Kamene Goro has shamed Socialite Huddah Monroe for her campaign urging women to abstaining from having sex with sponsors.
Dubbed Funga Duka, Huddah has been leading the campaign urging women to avoid sex in 2019 to punish men who are cheating.
The ‘Funga Duka’ sex boycott went viral under the #Fungaduka after Carol- the woman who texted Huddah complaining about men- said that she had closed her legs until Michael, her cheating boyfriend gets tested and starts behaving well.
According to Goro, Huddha is in no position to lead such a campaign having used her private parts to attain her riches.
“So while I was away, I hear there was something called “Funga Duka” that was began, so Huddah Monroe has decided to go on a nationwide campaign telling ladies to Funga their duka to the boy child. Huddah is going to tell you that, that is her business. This babe has bought a car, house, built an enterprise from her duka, now she is the one going to tell you that, ati the campaign is called what? Huddah? That’s who you guys are listening to?” Said Kamene Goro.
NRG Radio presenter Mwalimu Rachael yesterday went on a Twitter rant after the radio station was marked as one which lacks content and creativity.
Under the hashtag #MuteDarkEnergy, KOT said that whatever is being done on NRG is just a collection of things that happened online that the station jumps on and swim in the wave.
Some of the guests on my channel have been featured on other shows and the presenters followed the same content flow and questions I used ???????? imitation is the best form of flattery but really? Between a producer and a presenter, new angles are impossible to find???? Smh
Mwalimuch Racheal didn’t take this kindly and went on a rant saying that Twitter bigwig and influencer Brian Mbunde, who is among the first to start the trend, was just bitter because he couldn’t make it on radio.
“#KeepTheSameEnergy on and off these fake twitter streets. Some of you are here throwing stones yet tukipull footage from our studio we shall see you dancing inside our studios and drinking. Hata haya hamna? Man. You really are the S.I unit of fake and two-faced. Aunty will pray4u,” read one tweet.
In another tweet she said:
“Let’s face it. Some so-called big wigs here have trieeeeed to join radio but failed. Terribly. And that’s why they are so bitter here towards radio stations/ personalities. There is an opinion you can raise in a decent manner and you will be heard. #MuteDarkEnergy.”
Things then got heated and people started re-posting the viral picture she took with Timmy Tdat. Mwalimu was forced to explain about the picture saying that she took it for fun but ended up regretting later on.
Mwalimu rachael Ule wa NRG ako na Mzee lakini analamba timmy mbele ya umati alafu unishow niskize hiyo radio
“To those posting the pic with Timmy… ah. Predictable. But you see, once u mess up admit it & move on with ur life my people, no one can hurt u. What you don’t know is that the whole time we took the pictures, we were laughing at how silly we felt. Impatience from one end + adrenaline from my end = Bad decisions,” she said.
“I have learnt that. Before I knew it the pictures were out there making rounds. Then you know that feeling of ‘I done messed up?’ It started creeping in. It starts off slowly, you try to suppress it, distract yourself, tell yourself you have nothing to worry about, but it’s still there. Lingering. Worst.Feeling.Ever.here’s immense pressure about being a wife, a mother and an entertainer at the same damn time. Things you wanna do but can’t, things you wanna say but shouldn’t. I keep praying that I know how to navigate those waters…This is to my audience, my admirers, even my haters who have been waitiiing for me to mess up. What I did was wrong. I can admit that. That is how I know I’m in a good space,” read her post in part.
Brian urged her to stop complaining after being criticized.
If you don’t want people to criticize your show/station, please record and share with guys on Whatsapp. pic.twitter.com/TyUpGPDBbk

Singer Timmy Tdat has released his first single since getting his first radio gig, which led to many concluding that he might be done with his music career.
The Kaka Empire artist has released “Kitambo”, another dance tune to add to his immense portfolio. The song is getting positive reviews and is already trending on YouTube. The song was produced by veteran producer Musyoka while the video was Enos Olik’s works.
Timmy recently got a radio job and now is co-hosting alongside the popular Mwalimu Rachael at NRG Radio. The move was met with some criticism considering that Timmy has gone to radio when his music career is seen to be at it’s peak. It’s still early to gauge whether he’ll manage to balance the two careers but history has never favored artists who switched to radio.
No one saw it coming. Not her fans, colleagues, not even some of the industry players.
Popular radio presenter, Mwalimu Rachael has now opened up on some of the reasons why she left Homeboyz Radio for the new NRG Radio that has just been launched.
According to the presenter, she was at the top of her game and her show was one of the best at HBR when she left for NRG, a thing that left many confused. In her latest blog, she shared some of the reasons why she had moved to NRG saying that she needed new challenges as a presenter.
Time to use 10 years of experience
She said that the new job kind of scared her but she was very willing to absorb the pressure which will see her successfully use her 10 years of experience.
“I left my former place of work Homeboyz Radio on the 19th of January 2018 and reported to my new home NRG Radio 91.3 FM on the 5th of March 2018 (I write this so y’all can remind me of the anniversary lol),” She said on the post.
“Why I left HBR at a time I was doing so well?
“This is my new studio and yooo! I love it!
“I am the head presenter at NRG radio and I have to say it comes with some pressure, but the good kind. This is where I get to really use my 10 years experience in the radio industry and help bring in the new crop of presenters. Something I love to do. I’m in a good space. I will also get to explore other areas of the broadcasting business and I can’t wait to challenge myself more!”
It has been a rumor flying around for almost two years but now it has been confirmed: rapper Rick Ross will be in Kenya in a few weeks time.
The rumour started milling almost two years ago though the details were very sketchy. Rick Ross is expected to arrive in Kenya in April for the highly anticipated, second NRG Wave concert which will be on April 28, 2017 at the Carnivore Grounds.
NRG Radio has made a few posts already to officially confirming this and sources with inside information confirm that they have been having sleepless nights planning for the gig and flying in the mega star.
Has worked with Diamond and Huddah
The first NRG Wave concert was a huge success and we hope also this upcoming one will make history. Locally, Rick Ross has worked with singer Diamond Platnumz for a collabo and indirectly with Huddah Monroe, who are all Luc Belaire brand ambassador.
Ross made to the headlines recently after a health scare which saw him rushed to the hospital in serious condition after a dangerous bout of pneumonia and was allegedly under life support for a few following days. A number of local artists will also perform in the event.
The two presenters took a bunch of half naked photos while hyping the show leaving fans with questions on whether they might be having something more than just work between them.
NRG Radio’s launch has been highly anticipated after word slipped out they have poached top presenter from Homeboyz Radio. According to different sources, the radio station is also on the ground currently looking for the best radio talent who they can employ and turn to superstars.
