ONE ON ONE: Artists who have had crazy moments with their fans during and after their performances

Most of us enjoy attending concerts just to see our favorite artists perform. The good vibes that come from singing along to the music and dancing is way out of this world.

Thing is, people go for these concerts for totally different reasons. Finding a soulmate, stealing, to see if they can to talk to their celebrities, making friends etcetra.

We have witnessed a number of fans doing some crazy things to artists.  During an interview conducted by Caroline Mukami, some artists shed light on the encounters they went through during or after their performances.

Kristoff

Kristoff shared that his shoes were stolen when he was busy entertaining his fans. He does not remember how it happened but in a blink of an eye, he realized that his expensive kicks were not on his feet.

Miracle Baby also disclosed about one of the experiences he had. “Nilipatana na madem wakanitoa trouser” (I met some ladies and they removed my pants).  The member of the Sailors group recalls running away as he feared for his life.

Miracle Baby

Jasper Mwongera, commonly known as Jasper Murume also revealed that a fan held him tightly on his neck and congratulated him. This left him in turmoil as he did not know the intentions of the man. The comedian thanked the man, did the same thing in return, and threw him on the ground.

It is clear that artists go through a lot during concerts but some of the things the fans do are unnecessary.

ONE ON ONE: All that glitters is not gold! Kristoff sheds light on posting fake lifestyles on social media

When growing up most people dream about all the good things in life. Getting a good a partner and career, owning various luxurious cars, having some several mansionettes and apartments under one’s name, travelling the world,  and you know, having all the best life has to offer.

Also read: “Usilie mtu akipita na bae wako!” Kristoff reveals why you should not post your partner on social media (Video)

As we get older some people stick to following their dreams, which they achieve, while others give up along the way, admiring what others have.

Truth is, life is a rollercoaster but as Winston Churchill’s famous saying goes, “Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.”

Some of the youths however have been led to believe that getting sponsors or sugar mummies is the way to go. The thought process behind this being, “why look for jobs, hustle from 9am to 5pm while I can bag myself someone who will spend Kshs.10,000 per week on me as long I can keep him company?” Who am I to judge though!

A lot of people have employed the ‘fake it till you make it’ mantra and so many people are falling for it. During an interview conducted by Caroline Mukami, Christopher Barton Namwaya popularly known as Kristoff, shed light on how people are lured by the lavish lifestyle that people post on social media.

King Kaka is back with 'Show Kitu' need to check it out

The rainbow hitmaker explained that a lot of people will fake their lives by posting expensive cars and houses on social media with ill intentions. As a result, some will want to associate with these “rich” guys not knowing that they are falling for a trap.

He said that most of these people have either borrowed or rented some of their properties or most probably do not have anything to them. Some will get married not knowing that their partner has been living in debt amounting to millions of shillings.

You end up in turmoil trying to figure out how this could happen despite all the dates, expensive gifts and cars that this person deceived you with. That is when it all dawns on you that your partner had been living a fake life. I was a scam!

Kristoff

We all witnessed how Wilkins Fadhili fake lifestyle came crumbling down. To cut the long story short, his fraudulent ways were exposed and he had to apologize for all he said and did.

I was once told to never pray to be like someone else because everyone has a story behind everything we see. Instead, I should work hard and smart to achieve my goals and get what is mine. As I grew up, I found this to be very true.

I concur with Kristoff, do not believe everything you see on social media.

ONE ON ONE: “Usilie mtu akipita na bae wako!” Kristoff reveals why you should not post your partner on social media (Video)

When having a conversation with my colleagues or friends one of the topics that usually come up is “are you single?”, “does your bae post you on social media ama tunyamaze?”.

Also read: Kristoff should stick to collabos, his solo projects always flop

As the famous Maya Angelou quote goes, “Love is that condition in the healing spirit so profound that it allows us to forgive.” I agree with this but it gets to a point where you can no longer forgive your partner due to some understandable circumstances and decide to call it quits.

Kristoff

We have seen a lot of relationships and marriages coming to an end all in the name of ‘I am showing off my bae to the public’ only for us to hear that someone’s girlfriend has been spotted in the company a certain celebrity or vice versa.

During an interview hosted by Caroline Mukami, Christopher Barton Namwaya, popularly known as Kristoff, said that he is off the market.

Well, the reason why you have not and won’t been seeing any his girlfriend’s photos on his social media accounts is because the artist likes keeping his private life to himself.

He emphasized that posting your partner is like marketing him or her to other people and you should have yourself to blame if someone else decides to start hitting on your bae.

Kristoff warned the netizens that they do not have to tag their partner if at all they will post them as this opens up the relationship to infidelity. All in all, the dundaing hitmaker is of the idea of just keeping your personal life to yourself.

Kristoff
Kristoff

To be honest, he has a point. Last month, when Size 8’s marriage was on the rocks, a city pastor took to social media and posted, “Marriage isn’t a walk in the park. Social media will break your marriages.”

“Kwanza wale wanaume wanapenda kupost their wives kutisha watu, ni mkora. Mwanaume ambaye anashindia kutaja bibi yake kuliko biashara ni mkora,” the pastor added.

We have witnessed how Marya and Moustapha, Natalie Tewa and Rnaze Mukibi, Tanasha Donna and Diamond’s relationships, just to mention a few, came to an end.

In all honesty, reading about how these celebrities started by posting all their lovey-dovey lifestyles on social media to how they broke up is gut-wrenching.

To save yourselves from affliction, I would suggest you take Kristoff’s advice and keep your relationship private.

Where should gospel musicians draw the line?

Kush Tracey’s recent release with Kristoff and Yvonne Darcq dubbed Bash has elicited mixed reactions and left many wondering whether she’s still a gospel musician.

Earlier this year, the Ndulu hitmaker announced that she had seen the light and she has been releasing songs that glorify the man above until recently when she chose a different path.

Her outfits have also raised eyebrows. According to her critics, Kush Tracey’s recent dress code doesn’t reflect someone who is saved.

She’s not alone. Other gospel singers such as Nicah The Queen have also been faulted for their seductive dressing which many claim does not glorify God.

On the other hand, the likes of Willy Paul are often put on the spot for releasing songs that have little or nothing to do with spreading the word.

Others have previously been criticized for indulging in alcohol and/or drugs, visiting places that are not ‘holy’ such as clubs and sleeping around.

The actions of local gospel musicians makes anyone wonder whether there is a line that they can’t cross i.e. how far they are willing to go.

Ideally, they are supposed to lead their lives in a certain way so that people who look up to them desire to be like them but they don’t do that.

You would not be wrong if you said that modern-day gospel musicians are leading people away from the Lord instead of calling them to Him.

Looking at their lifestyles, you’ll realize they are just in it for the money. Nothing more. They just want to be known as gospel artists but there is nothing about their music that shows that they are saved.

It’s about time they realize that their actions don’t just reflect on them but also on the faith. They should not make Christianity look like a joke. Enough said.

Naiboi is ahead of his time

Michael Kennedy Claver, better known as Naiboi, is without a doubt one of the few music geniuses that we have in the country at the moment. If you ask me, I’ll tell you that he’s way ahead of his time.

Also read: Naiboi has really slowed down lately

I have to admit that I was a little bit worried when I realized that the Pacho Records founder didn’t have a song whose success can be compared to 2018’s 2 in 1 then Sondeka All Stars Remix happened.

Naiboi
Naiboi

If you look at the artists who were featured on the song, from the new-age acts to those who have been in the game for longer, then you’ll appreciate Naiboi’s ingenuity.

Just like 2 in 1 – which was made up of short videos of celebrities singing along to the song – Sondeka All Stars Remix features artists who are constantly on the lips of Kenyans.

They are; Fena Gitu, Mordecai of H_art The Band, Visita, Benzema of Ochunglo Family, Kristoff, Ex Ray of Boondocks Gang, Femi One and Khaligraph Jones.

Khaligraph Jones
Khaligraph Jones

Chances are, your favourite artist(s) is among the aforementioned names and this will make you listen to the song, and when you do you’ll realize that it’s actually a masterpiece.

To prove that the project was a brilliant idea, it has not only clocked 300,000 views, which is really good, but it has also been on the top 5 trending songs since it was released.

Naiboi just doesn’t release music like most local artists, every step is well-thought-out and the end result is always amazing.

I don’t know what he is planning next but I can tell you for free that it will be unique and you will be left asking for more. Established artists who are struggling to stay afloat should take a cue form him.

Gabu brings Kristoff on board for ‘Cece’ (Video)

Kenyan singer Gabriel Kagundu, better known as Gabu and formerly of P-Unit, has released a new jam with Kristoff and it’s a big tune.

Also read: Which P-Unit member has been most successful after they split up?

The track dubbed Cece is a club banger but it is kind of different because it gives off a mellow vibe which means that it some elements of a love ballad.

Gabu and Kristoff

If you are a fan of both Gabu and Kristoff, like myself, then you should get ready to be entertained because the artists brought their A-game on Cece.

This jam is so infectious. I have listened to it a couple of times since it was released and every time I play it, I fee like I am hearing it for the very first time and that is exactly how a great song should make you feel.

Gabu has an amazing voice and to add to that, this lad has a unique ability to play around with word and make dope rhymes that will leave you scratching your head as you try to make sense of it all.

Kristoff Rainbow
Kristoff

Listening to him on this track made me miss the good old days when P-Unit treated us to hit after hit. I wish they can give us one last concert for old times sake. Anyway, that is a story for another day.

As expected – Kristoff – who is also known as Mluhya Wa Busia, also did a good job on Cece. Other than his melodic voice, which blends well with that of Gabu, he also has an impeccable flow.

The beat which was produced by Kashkeed is really catchy. I also love the video for this song. One of the things that caught my attention is its crisp quality, we’ve honestly come far as a country in terms of music videos.

Watch Cece below and tell us what you think.

Kelechi Africana links up with Kristoff on ‘I Got You’ (Video)

Kelechi Africana, who is arguably one of the most sought-after artists from the Coast at the moment, has released a new jam with Kristoff and it’s getting a lot of love from their fans.

Also read: Why Coastal music barely gets any nationwide attention

If you are a fan of both artists – like I am – then the song dubbed I Got You is definitely a good treat for you. You will really love it, perhaps even more than I did. Put simply, it’s the perfect collabo.

Kristoff Rainbow
Kristoff

Kelechi Africana has a unique and amazing and there is nowhere where proves this more than this track. I am quite sure that lasses fall head over heels when they hear his voice. Where was I when God was blessing him though?

As you would expect, Kristoff also aced it. This guy is the undisputed king of hooks. It’s interesting to listen to him as he rhymes. Chances are that your hand will be stuck on the replay button because of his flow.

The two musicians make a song sound heavenly because of their diverse styles. It’s like having the best of two worlds but in a musical context because the lyricism in I Got You is also on point.

Kelechi Africana

I honestly loved the beat on this joint too. It gives you the feeling of hitting the club and having a good time and that is exactly what a good song should do. Don’t you agree? Fleek Made It totally aced it.

Generally speaking this is dope jam. Perhaps it’s even the best record from his forthcoming Extended Play (EP) titled Keep It Fleek. If you are a fan of good music like yours truly, I am sure that you will have a blast.

Listen to I Got You below and tell us what you think.

Ex Ray, Magix Enga, Timmy, Kristoff, Jua Cali and Harry Craze drop highly-anticipated jam ‘Nyoka Ya Shaba’ (Video)

The much-awaited track by Andrew Kibe, Kamene Goro, Xtian Dela, Ex Ray, Magix Enga, Timmy Tdat, Kristoff, Jua Cali and Harry Craze titled Nyoka Ya Shaba is finally out and it is eliciting mixed reactions from their fans.

Although the song, which was released a few days ago, has been rocking the airwaves it has left Kenyans wondering if Gengetone is on its deathbed with some saying the sound has become too cliche and/or predictable.

Magix Enga, Kamene Goro, Ex Ray and Xtian Dela.
Magix Enga, Kamene Goro, Ex Ray and Xtian Dela.

I have listened to the jam a couple of times since it came out and to be honest, I so indifferent because part of me was wowed and at the same time I feel there is nothing to write home about it.

I must give it to the musicians who were featured in this jam. I really loved how they were playing around with words and their rhymes were also sick.

If I had to pick 3 artists whose flow totally jazzed me then I’d settle on Timmy Tdat, Harry Craze and of course Baba Yao himself Jua Cali.

I’m not saying that Kristoff, Ex Ray and Magix Enga didn’t come through on Nyoka Ya Shaba, they actually did. The hook by the latter is so infectious that you will fill yourself singing along in no time.

Kristoff, who is often referred to as the King of Collabos, also aced it. His verse is so catchy and I am pretty sure you won’t forget the part where he said, “Niaje Kamene (mambo), kam nikukiss hii si Kameme (eiii).”

The artists who were featured in this song were well-thought out because their styles complement each other. Think of it like having the best of different worlds. I only wish they had included Rekless or Swat Mtoto Wa Eunice.

Magix Enga, Harry Craze and Ex Ray
Magix Enga, Harry Craze and Ex Ray

The beat by Magix Enga was sick. As you listen to this song, you can picture people busting moves to it at a party or a club.

The video, which was directed by the one and only VJ One, was also impeccable. Other than the sexy vixens, you will also agree with me that it had some dope shots and the scene transitioning was flawless.

In as much as I love this jam, I have to say that as you listen to it you can feel that Gengetone is dead because it does not slap as hard as the songs which were released in 2019 but then again maybe it’s just me.

Watch Nyoka Ya Shaba below and tell us what you think. Enjoy!

It gets raunchy by the day:Kagwe Mungai teams up with Kristoff to bring us “Single” its beautiful(Video)

When you thought you had seen it all from  Vitamin U makers, then you had seen just but a tip of the iceberg. Kagwe Mungai has teamed up with Kristoff  to brings us a new raunchy jam “Single”

Few months ago Kenyans thought that their beloved Kagwe could be a potential artist the Gospel industry after he realised “Ogopa Mungu” ft Mt Seed.

A song that was so well received by fans all over.  However, Kagwe has cleared the air after releasing this new collabo with Kristoff- Single.

The two-Kagwe and Kristoff- have phenomenal track records as artists. Kristoff has done several songs with various artists and has produce unforgettable hit songs.

Single

Among his biggest is   Dundaing ft King Kaka and Magix Enga.

Kagwe on the other end has had massive hits including Creeper, African Lady, Clubbin’ , Party Nation which was a collabo among many others.

However in this new jam “Single “ the two decided it was time to get raunchy and naughty lyrically.

Video

Just like Nishike by Sauti Sol, this video is the real deal. Its one of those videos that will have the “morality cops” up in arms. It gets the viewer hooked from the very beginning to the end.

Kagwe, Kristoff

Let’s start with the fair share of popping melanin that meets our eyes at the beginning of the song.  Kagwe  Mungai and the vixen are in this kind of moment that suggests a deep desire.

Slowly, we see  Mungai going  for the kiss as he sings off his verse.  It is timeless, passionate, sensual not trying to win her over but to create that deep connection.

But the song title and the action in the video do not match. Confusing huh?

Nothing else about the video sticks in my mind more than this passionate moment. The colors in the video too are not bad.

Lyrics

The  Ransom Beatz produced song is properly arranged to the level of an international banger. The blend of Swahili, English and Sheng in this song is smooth and easily goes unnoticed as the skill is just perfect. Not forgetting Kagwe’s voice. Influence from Gengetone kids?Well, will find out .

The irony in these lines strikes real head and gets my ribs cracking

“I got a light skinned girl looking Very Sidika…Very Sidika

I got a dark-skinned girl looking Very Sidika. “

Kristoff

Even more interesting is the Luhya culture that doesn’t go forgotten in this song when Kristoff to send  send greetings from Busia. You can’t us luhyas-hamtuwezi!

This song is lit but the video is FIIRREEEEE!!!!! In the meantime enjoy.

Rating 9/10. Your thoughts?

Kristoff Vs King Kaka: Which artist really spices up collabos?

I’m sure we all love collabos, especially when your favorite artists come together on a jam. Nothing beats that. While there are countless local collabos, I doubt if there is a Kenyan act who has worked with many artists like Kristoff and King Kaka.

The latter is known to feature different artists in his songs, on the other hand, Mluhya Wa Busia often features in other people’s songs. Perhaps that’s the only big difference between the two talented musicians.

Whichever way you look at it, they’re all collabos irrespective of who featured in whose song.  As such, we want to pit these two artists against each other because we’d like to know who between them really spices up collabos.

Kristoff

Some of his most popular collabos include; Dundaing with King Kaka & Magix Enga, Rieng Remix with Boondocks Gang & Rankaddah, Tippy Toe with Femi One, Somaga with Naiboi, Biashara Remix with Khaligraph Jones and Stella Mwangi etc.

King Kaka

His most popular collabos include; Dundaing with Kristoff & Magix Enga, Kula Vako with The Kansoul, Ruka with Phy and Khaligraph Jones, Kidesign with Eddie Butita and DJ Shiti, Dandia with Kristoff and Frasha, Baadaye with Amos and Josh etc.

According to you, who is the Kenyan king of collabos between King Kaka and Kristoff? Tell us below.

Kristoff has teamed up with Raj on ‘Supaloaf’ and we love it (Audio)

Kenyan rapper Rajiv Okemwa, popularly known as Raj, has teamed up with Kristoff on his latest release and we are really feeling it.

Also read: Kristoff should stick to collabos, solo projects are not working for him

The jam dubbed Supaloaf is the third record off his Bae Tuesday 2.0 series where he releases a new jam every Tuesday from August until December in anticipation for his #BAE2 (Beautiful And Exquisite2) album.

Maybe you can tell, maybe you can’t but the song is just about how people work so hard put bread on their tables i.e. Supaloaf.

Raj Kenya
Raj Kenya

In the song, Raj says that he will settle down with this beautiful lass that he’s eyeing when he gets some money in his pockets.

He says, “Nikipata supaloaf, nitakumarry. Nikipata supaloaf nilipie mahari. I just need bread, pesa, chapaa kwanza iwe supaloaf.”

As, expected Kristoff also came through with some great punchlines on this song.

To add to that, there’s something about how he sings that makes you want to keep listening to a song.

The song was produced by iLogos Music and he also did a great job on the beats. Although it’s not a a party song, I would definitely turn up to this jam.

Listen to Supaloaf below and tell us what you think.

Boondocks Gang are back a new jam dubbed ‘Chura’ and we’re really feeling it (Video)

Boondocks Gang, the group that treated music fans to Rieng in December 2018, is back with another jam!

For starters, let me state that I’m a huge fan of this group that is made up of Kid Furnace (Odi Wa Murang’a), Ex Ray, and Edu Maddox. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, we can now proceed with this review.

Their new jam dubbed Chura is their is sixth release since they debuted in the local entertainment industry in 2018. Their other songs are Ital, MadamNiromboseViral and Rieng which is their biggest song to date.

Before I forget, about a fortnight ago Boondocks Gang dropped Rieng Remix featuring Kristoff and Randkaddah. The song is almost has clocked 267,000 views in two weeks and that should tell you something.

Anyway, Chura is slang for a woman and a beautiful one at that. In the song, Boondocks Gang is do things to a woman that we won’t talk about today. Okay?

Anyway, like I always say, if you choose to ignore the explicit words and focus on the rhymes and flow, you’ll realize that this is actually a masterpiece. It really is!

Odi Wa Murang’a totally killed it on this one. I know you agree with me on this, don’t you? I listened to his part over and over.

Of course, the lyrics are to explicit to be analyzed here. As such, you should listen to the song and decide whether the wording is worth writing home about.

The beat, which was produced by the one and only Mashakura, is also pretty decent. It makes you want to jump out of your seat to dance.

The dance video was directed by Vikta Daniel. Watch Chura below and tell us what you think.

Kristoff, Boondocks Gang and Randkaddah have finally dropped ‘Rieng Remix’ and it’s too lit (Video)

Rieng by Boondocks Gang was such a dope jam but have you heard the remix? The remix, which features Kristoff and Rankaddah was released yesterday and it’s way better than the original.

Just like most of you, I was really waiting for Rieng (Remix) to drop so much that I was among the first people to watch it when it premiered on YouTube on Wednesday at 3 pm.

You see, I’m such a huge fan of Boondocks Gang or Genge La Bundoksi if you like. I’ve been listening to since I discovered their music in January this year.

Boondocks Gang
Boondocks Gang

Also read: ‘Rieng’ hitmakers Boondocks Gang have dropped another fire jam and we love it (Video)

I keep tabs on them and it obvious why. The members of the group i.e. Kid Furnace (Odi Wa Murang’a), Ex Ray, and Edu Maddox are very talented.

If you choose to ignore the raunchiness of the words that they use in their songs and focus on the rhymes and flow, you’ll also agree that these youngins are gifted.

Perhaps this explains my excitement when they dropped Rieng (Remix) yesterday.

Admittedly, I didn’t really feel the song when I first heard it but after listening to it a few of more times, I realized that it’s a masterpiece. Simply put, it grew on me with time.

Kid Furnace (Odi Wa Murang’a), Rankaddah, Ex Ray, Edu Maddox and Kristoff all did a superb job on this song. However, I was most impressed by Kristoff and Kid Furnace (Odi Wa Murang’a).

Kristoff
Kristoff

There’s a part where Kristoff says, “Uhoro wakwo, mwendwa wakwo, inanifanya nisikie kushika matakwo, hizo zakwo, siwezi kuvakwo, ziko na rieng kushinda hata za mamakwo.”

I don’t know even what it means, I just loved the flow.

Trey Juelz did a great job on the video. I love the simple location that they picked for the shoot. The video was shot at a garage but it still has a funky vibe.

Rieng was produced by Jegede who is also currently topping charts with his latest single Vera Sidika.

Watch Rieng (Remix) below. You can find the lyrics for this song here.

Kristoff’s new banger ‘Rainbow’ is proof of how much he’s grown over the years (Video)

Kristoff has really grown over the years. If you’ve been jamming to his music since he debuted in the local entertainment industry with his first single dubbed Let’s Play House, then you can attest to this.

Just like wine, Kristoff keeps getting better with time. In my opinion, 2018 was the best year in his music career. He released several hits, including Dundaing which was one of the biggest songs last year.

Just when we thought we had seen it all, Mluhya Wa Busia started the year on a high note. Since the year began, he has released two songs with Naiboi dubbed Bungee Jump and Somaga. Both songs have been performing well.

Just recently, Kristoff released his first solo project of the year dubbed Rainbow and it has been getting mad love, judging from the comments on YouTube. Most music fans can’t get enough of it.

Rainbow is about this beautiful lass who is driving Kristoff crazy. She makes him feel like he can do anything in this world. Put simply,  this song is a dedication to people who are in love.

As expected, Kristoff’s delivery is also on point. His lyrics are witty. As the song begins he says, “Mi ndio master wa head kama principal, onyesha kila kitu love baki visible, here we go, me and you we good to go mi natoa hater rangi basi hit the door.”

Kristoff
Kristoff

The beat, which was produced by Jack On The Beat, is also on point. It has this feel good vibe. You’ll just find yourself swaying your head from side to side.

The song’s video is also decent. However, this does not really come as a surprise seeing as it was directed by Kenny. Yup, he’s the same guy who directed Diamond’s Tetema.

Watch Rainbow below and tell us what you think. Get some good earphones for this.

Kenyan musicians have done so many collabos this year and we’re really impressed

Maybe you’ve noticed, maybe you haven’t but Kenyan musicians have dropped so many collabos since the year began. If you are a huge fan of local music, like yours truly, I’m you are also impressed.

For the first time in a long while, there’s something good to say about the local entertainment industry. We’re barely five months into the year and we’ve seen the most unexpected collabos. It’s such an exciting time to be alive.

Artist have not only realized the importance of doing collabos, they have also decided to step out of the comfort zones. On a light note, I’m pretty sure Kenyan musicians agreed that 2019 is the year of working together.

What I love most about this is that our artists are not only working with their fellow Kenyan musicians, they are also crossing borders and working with acts from Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana and Jamaica.

The likes of rapper Khaligraph Jones have featured on four great collabos since we crossed over into 2019. The songs are; Japo Kidogo, Kiboko (Remix), Megarider (Remix), and Chukua Selfie which was a campaign but still counts.

Papa Jones aslo featured Nigerian rapper Ycee on Gwala which was released in January this year.

If you’ve noticed, Naiboi is also doing a lot of collabos this year. He has two songs with Kristoff, a song with Brown Mauzo. He was featured on Chukua Selfie. His new song with Vivian and Savara dubbed came out a few hours ago.

Arrow Bwoy has also been breaking his back when it comes to music collabos. He has a song with Demarco, another one with Cecile. He has also worked with Gabu and Jovial

Other artists who’ve dropped good collabos this year are; Willy Paul, Timmy Tdat, Nyashinki, Jua Cali, Avril, King Kaka, Mr Seed, The Kansoul, Rankaddah, Rankaddah, Mayonde, Ochunglo Family, just to name a few.

To say the least, I am impressed. I can’t help but imagine how many more great collabos we’ll see before the year ends. I hope this also serves as a wake up call to artists who have been shying away from collabos.

What are some of your favourite local collabos this year? Leave a comment below.

Naiboi and Kristoff have dropped the video for their mega hit ‘Somaga’ and we’re really feeling it

After 15 years of nothing but sheer hardwork, Michael Clevar Odhiambo, alias Naiboi, finally got his big break in 2018 when he released 2 in 1.

2 in 1, which was made up of short clips of local celebs singing along to lyrics of the song, was one of the biggest jams in Kenya in 2018 alongside King Kaka’s Dundaing featuring Magix Enga and Ethic’s Lamba Lolo.

Naiboi, who was previously known as Rapdamu, caught the attention of many people when he released the song. He finally came to be recognized as one of the best musicians in the country.

Of course, he had released many songs before that. Some of them include; Problem, 4Mulla, Dinda, Smooth Criminal, I Wanna Be, Ding Dong, Too Much etc. However, none of these songs did well like 2 in 1.

Naiboi
Naiboi

Music fans finally accorded him the respect that he deserved. Naiboi was finally recognized for his work. Perhaps this motivated him as he has been putting a lot of work lately.

In the last few months he has released four new songs. These are; Keki, Usipime Mwanaume, Bungee Jump and Somaga whose video was released three days ago.

He teamed up with Kristoff for Somaga and you know what to expect when you hear these two names in one song. Even before you listen to the song, you get this feeling that your earbuds will not be disappointed.

The audio came out on February 25 and as you know, most music fans don’t take you seriously until you release a music video. So, Naiboi did the needful.

Somaga is about this beautiful lass who is always busy on her phone. Some guy is trying to get her attention but she never replies his messages. Instead, she talks to other people in her Insta DMs and WhatsApp messages. I know many of you can relate to this.

Kristoff

Kristoff a.k.a Mluhya Wa Busia really came through on Somaga. His voice is so unique and it adds this great vibe to the whole song. Let’s be honest, this song would be kind of flat without him. As such, it’s not a surprise that Kristoff is featured in many collabos. His voice adds flavour to a song.

The song’s chorus is easy to remember. It goes like, “When I’m with you now you are busy on your phone*2. Zako maWhatsApp, zako ma Insta. Nikituma ka DM yangu unapita. Asema zako Ma WhatsApp, zako ma Insta. Nikiskuma Ka DM, zangu unapita. Wewe bana, ah wewe nishakusomanga*4.

The star-studded video which was directed by VJ One is also on point, with smooth transitions from one scene to the next. The video featured a number of local celebrities including; Terrence Mwangi, Mammito, Jaymo Ule Msee, Annstellah Karimi etc.

Rixx really came through on the beat so much so that this song is somewhere between a club banger and a feel good song. You can’t really tell where it lies. All that is clear is that it’s such a good song.

Things can only get better for Naiboi from here

Kenyan singer Michael Clevar Odhiambo, alias Naiboi, has really come a long way. He is proof that sheer willpower and perseverance can take you from the bottom of the pie the top.

He made his debut in the local music industry in 2003 as Rapdamu but only came to be recognised in 2017 when he released Problem. That is 14 years of nothing but diligence and hardwork.

The Pacho Records founder doubled up as a producer and musician until five years ago when he decided to focus on one craft; music. He hired a couple of music producers to help him at his studio as he shifted his focus to becoming a household name.

This transition saw him ditch the name Rapdamu for Naiboi which he says was inspired by the need to fight for the Kenyan sound at a time when Nigerian music had taken place over local radio stations.

He released a couple of songs after his metamorphosis. Some of them include; Too Much, Smooth Criminal, Kidege, 4Mulla, I Wanna Be, Ding Dong and Dinda. However, none of these songs received massive airplay like 2 in 1.

2 in 1 was the biggest song in 2018 until King Kaka, Kristoff and Magix Enga released Dundaing and narrowly edged out Naiboi at the Pulse Music Video Awards (PMVA).

Before we wrapped up the year, Naiboi dropped another joint dubbed Usipime Mwanaume. As expected, the song was received well by his fans.

A few days ago, he released a new collabo with Kristoff titled Somaga and as is the norm, the song is getting massive airplay. This goes to show that things can only get better for him. Naiboi is a point where anything that he touches turns into gold. Quite literally!

“Do you know the amount of money artistes spend before one song is out?” Kristoff takes subliminal shots at Jalango

More and more Kenyan artistes are getting drawn into the fierce beef that has pitted musicians against TV and radio presenters.

Khaligraph Jones started it all when he mocked presenters with a free trip to Nigeria while protesting the influx of Nigerian songs into the Kenyan airwaves.

Jalang’o has been the face of presenters in this tug of war, he has been defending his colleagues from accusations that they prefer playing foreign music over Kenyan songs.

2019 a year of change

Kristoff has joined the conversation to express his frustration with Kenyan TV and radio presenters. He wants 2019 to be the year when Kenyan artistes finally get the 100% airplay that they desperately yearn for.

“People dont know the effort and energy or the amount of money artists spend before one song is out, just one song, not an album, just a single,it kills me/us artists, when the support goes else wea,coz this ppl dont do the same for us!! ..let’s play Kenyan music…2019 is a new year.. lets make change, it’s up to us as Kenyans. #mluhyawabusia #4u out now on youtube….” wrote Kristoff.

Octopizzo ako wapi? King Kaka’s song ‘Dundaing’ goes international. Played in the US at NBA game(video)

King Kaka can’t just stop winning this year.

The rapper is coming off a very successful year that has seen him make major moves in the industry and land lucrative deals. Recently, King Kaka dropped his album “Eastlando Royalty” which has been well received by fans.

He also proposed to his longtime girlfriend Nana Owiti during the launch of the album leaving many fans in awe.

Blessings

King Kaka yesterday also enjoyed another star moment after his song “Dudaing” was played in the US at the NBA game between Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers.

In a video shared on social media, his song which features Kristoff and Magix Enga is heard playing in the background during a timeout.

King Kaka, who is on vacation with his wife, shared the video on Twitter saying:

“And We Are NBA. We are Dundaing!!!! ?? MARVS VS POR. Big up @poizonivythedj #eastlandoroyalty

It seems King Kaka is winning the international market also despite Octopizzo’s recent claims that he’s the only Kenyan rapper who is landing gigs abroad.

Remember King Kaka is also the first and only Kenyan artist to be interviewed on Hot 97, one of the biggest radio station in the US.

Hakuna Dundaing hapa! Kristoff chased like a stray dog after boring performance

Singer Kristoff had to be escorted off  stage after fans complained of his performance during the weekend.

According to Nairobian, the singer’s mic was cut after crowd started booing in Kenyatta University during Mr and Miss KU beauty pageant.

The singer wanted the crowd to move closer to the stage to enjoy his performance but bouncers refused to let them.

Walked off

He then went on to give his performance which failed to impress the students who started booing forcing the DJ to switch off his mic.

The singer was then forced to walk away from stage after temperatures started rising.

Kristoff: I have never dated Vera Sidika

Singer Kristoff has come out to deny dating Vera Sidika in an interview with Kiss 100 FM.

According to the singer the two were just friends and the public must have mis-interpreted things after spotting them together several times.

Kristoff said, “We were friends with Vera Sidika and Yvonne Darcq and nothing else was going on between us.”

It’s in the same interview which the singer denied ever being in a relationship with singer Yvonne Darcq also. Kristoff has just launched two songs and was doing a media tour to promote them.

“I would have gone for an older mama” Kristoff sets the record straight on being sponsored by Yvonne Darcq

Kristoff is back with a bang, the rapper had taken a sabbatical since mid last year. He has also addressed some of the bad rumors said about him last year.

A while back there were claims that Yvonne Darcq and Kristoff were an item. The two celebs were frequently seen together in public leading to the speculations.

Sponsor

There were also claims that Yvonne Darcq was sponsoring Kristoff. The rapper addressed the claims during a recent interview with Word Is.

“We were friends with Yvonne Darcq and nothing else was going on between us. How do I have a younger sponsor? I would have gone for an older mama if I wanted a sponsor. I will get married in two years and my ideal woman is light-skinned and hardworking,” Kristoff said.

Kristoff giving the likes of Khaligraph Jones and Sauti Sol a run for their money after releasing his latest project.. trust me it’s worth your time!

When it comes down to high quality music the likes of Sauti Sol and Khaligraph Jones are clearly winning. But
earlier this month, Kristoff aka Mluhya wa Busia released a new song Umeniwahi, marking his first official video in 2017.

The new video is undeniably on a new level as it delivered all that is needed in a good music video. The vixen featured in this song is what many refer to as a ‘thirst trap’ and judging from her dancing moves and chemistry when around Kristoff she brings new life and energy to the song.

There is no doubt that this time around the Kenyan artist was aiming to entertain his audience. He has captured his fans attention with his creative, unique and energetic vibe – making him stand out for the first time.

I can comfortably say that his fans watched the whole video (which isn’t easy these days) and also shared it with their friends.

Probably other artists should emulate what he did this time around, right? Here’s how to do it as an independent artist.
